The best and affordable school in our area is catholic. My son has been going there for three years. Love the school so far. As he gets older, I am sure there may be some conflicts that will arise for him since he goes to a Protestant church. Has anyone gone through it? Any advice?

There are non Catholics in my kid's catholic grade school and the are non Catholics in my kid's catholic high school. In fact.... most of the kids my daughter's catholic college are non Catholics. You are not the first to do this for the education.... and you will not be the last. Being involved (which is a given in catholic school) and communication with the school about your concerns should be all that is needed.

research the school and Directly ASK.
what religious Practices are the children caused to engage in..
are they encouraged to recite prayers where they use the term mary?mother of god,or hale mary ?or other blasphemies?

will you risk your child chanting at a hindu school some demonic mantra if it was closer?
would you send your child into danger for the sake of convenience?

heavy thoughts,serious thoughts

There are a lot of good Christian Catholic people, but I'd never send my child to a Catholic school. There is an old Catholic saying, "Give us your child for seven years, and he'll be a Catholic for life." I would never take the chance.

It's "hail." ;)

Blasphemies really? Mary the Mother of God as a statement is blasphemy?
A prayer? Oh c'mon, I know we are in the Baptist forum, but seriously?

I agree that the school should be checked out. Back in my day, I went to a few Catholic schools. Nuns everywhere! ;)

We went to Mass once a week.
I don't think that happens anymore, if it's a good school then I say a better education is worth the possible Catholic "influences" that may be there.
Catholics are Christians just like the rest of us.

I notice that you have received both stock Baptist knee jerks and good advise. Over my life I have had friends from an assortment of denominations and some of them were, even, Christians. At my last job two of my friends were Catholic and both of them were of the Christian variety, a rare find in any church of any denomination.

First off, if he grows up to choos4e going to the Catholic Church to worship, he will not go straight to Hell, far from it. By going to any Christian School his chance of being among the top 5% of the American Educated is immensely increased.

In this country the top five percent graduating are the Christian Home Schooled and the Christian Schooled. it is popular for the members only to condemn the Catholics because of the mix that occurs in the Third World Countries where it is common to see the Church embrace native sacrifices in and on the grounds of the Catholic Church, such as occurs in Guatemala.

The truth of the American Catholic Church is that a little over 98% o0f them will go to Hell along with abo0ut 98% of the Baptists, the Pentecostals and so on. His going to Catholic School increases his chances of actually worshipping God in truth and in spirit and therefore going to Heaven. With your and with your husband's life examples, he should be, already, saved... so what is to worry?

yes ..the term is a blasphemy .. a son is subject to a mother ,a mother is "over" a son.. to place that which is created in a position of honor over the creator is 1st idolatry and 2nd blasphemy .

he is the MOST high .There is none before him .
she is also called by rcc "queen of heaven ".. which invoked the anger of God upon them which did so . there is no Queen of heaven .

and to the Op .. you use the term "catholic bashing " .. this is very incorrect .
there is the plain truth in the scriptures .when you stand up for it ..you are not bashing those who teach in opposition to it ..you are standing up for the truth .I never say Catholics are not christian .but i will always openly say "some doctrines they(the rcc)teach are simply not scriptural and are in opposition to scripture .
so think carefully what doctrines you submit your children too .
ask the lord in sincere prayer if you truly desire "his" will in the matter .

Uh ya not sure why you would put your child in a Catholic school when you are not Catholic. For starters they have many beliefs that are profoundly against scripture.

No joke just had a Catholic tell me today that the Catholic church is the only way to heaven because it was founded by Jesus. That the Catholics were the ones who wrote the Bible. And that if you don't except the pope you are not truly saved. No joke they believe that garbage.

Oh lets not forget the whole Mary was a virgin her whole life. That Mary never sinned. That we should pray to Mary and the saints. They have a funny way of elevating man over God. That leaders in the church can't be married even though their founder Peter was married and had children! They are just wrong on so many levels yet they think they are the most righteous out of the denominations. They have messed up a lot of doctrine but instead of admitting they were wrong they just keep going with it spreading false teaching.

I would never put my child in a Catholic school if I was not Catholic.

I work in a Catholic school and, at least in our school, we welcome discussion about all faiths during class time. We have a few Muslim and Hindu students and they are most welcome to share their faith with the rest of us. A Hindu student shared how at a funeral they will burn the body and send it down the river- which honestly freaked out some of my students (3rd graders)- but I mentioned how we needed to respect other faiths and while that might sound "strange" to Christians, it's how people chose to respect their loved ones when they've passed on.

I hope your child's school is just as open to other faiths as ours are. Your child will probably end up learning how alike Catholicism is to Protestantism. (At my school we even have students take part during Mass in their special ministries- I have one Protestant boy who assists me with cleaning up after Mass and knows how to respectful wash the plates and chalices that have been used, even though he doesn't personally have the same beliefs of the Blessed Host and Blood.)

Just sharing- please feel free to stop by OBOB (the Catholic forum) and discuss with us these issues that you have about the Catholic faith. Based on this post, I'm not sure you really understand what Catholics believe and why we do or believe certain things.

That might help you to better understand why a Protestant Christian would want to send their child to a Catholic school :)
