  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok. So what if propulsion by sound is junk, cause we got magnetism. Yes! If we could get enough of an opposite magnetic force than the earths magnetic force, We could, in theory, get up into space, right? But then we would have to use fuel in space. Unless (well, this might be getting way out there but...) we could magnetize the few atoms there are in space and use that like a sling shot to pull us slowly through space. But that last part is kind crrrrraaaaaaaaazzzzzyyyy!! So perhpas it would be best to use fuel once we get to space.

I came up with a similar theory about a year ago which demonstrated magnets used to propel aircraft to and from the reaches of space. One of the biggest propblems in this theory was not only the amounts of power needed, but the magnetic field and how powerful its range will be. What if the magnetic field hits a house or tv or a car. It could destroy electronics not guarded from it and flip cars, damage airplanes, etc.

In Space, there is an opposite reaction and the magnet could very well go flying off into space.

Any new alternative propulsion mechanism whether it be magnetism or sound will be put under scrutiny for its energy consumption. There are very limited amounts of energy available to such projects and the USAF on occasion tends to waste some of this with teleportation projects and waste money by hiring pyschics to find Soviet missile silos and such. There aren't underground nuclear reactors at Langley or Pentagon or Area-51 as some will have you believe.

The future of propulsion, here on earth is going to be scramjet/ramjet and upgrades on current turbines. Rocket propulsion is still the most effective means of space travel as a large amount of force is needed to ascend through the atmosphere due to the bulk of the craft and its cargo, something like an acceleration of 5 mps is needed to enter space, 300-400 miles above earth and an acceleration of about 7 mps to reach the moon.

Keep working on that space elevator.

hmm good in theory.. but it is in practice where probs arise! I believe it took a few trillion volts of electricity in a particle accelerator to be able to speed up a single electron to about 47,000 laps of a 7km track per second using magnets so to do the same thing to be able to counter the earth's magnetism and gravity would cause a few energy probs!

For getting off Earth it will have to be the ol' fuel unfortunately unless some big break through occurs. There are many interesting theories regarding what to do once in space however..
