Prophetic practice thread

Good thread!

I too, am looking forward to practicing the gift of prophecy here. I've only done it a few times on the PM forum, and it usually takes me a couple of days to hear something.

I'm glad that there's a place here in the SF/P/C forum to practice this gift as well!

The very fact that someone gave a prophecy on this thread and the other person freely acknowledged that it was a Word from God for him proves that online prophecies can work well and bring blessing to the lives of people. This then negates what you are saying about the detrimental effect that prophecy over the internet can have.

Accountability is an issue, sure, but the very fact that the prophecy is written down on the thread means that there is a permanent record of it. If this is not accountability, what is? It is better accountability than someone giving an unrecorded prophecy in a church meeting and then people getting the wrong end of the stick about it because they remember the prophecy in the different way to what was actually said.

I think online prophecies are very secure and stable, because it is available to all to be able to evaluate. Furthermore, if the prophecy is directed to a specific person, then it is up to that person to evaluate it. A third party coming in and evaluating a prophecy for someone else could be seen as an interferer and thereby grieving and quenching the Spirit in others whose faith might up upset through inappropriate meddling by third parties.

A person receiving a prophecy over the internet can print it out and take it to his or her pastor and get advice on it if they are not sure about it.

Also, we do not automatically accept every word of prophecy as being true for everyone in every case. A person who accepts every word of prophecy and personalises it is being very unwise. We must appropriately divide the word of truth and accept what the Spirit says is for us, and ignore words that do not have an impact on us.

What I did on my Words of Prophetic Encouragement thread in the Prophetic Forum was to invite people to request words of prophecy. I asked them not to give any details with their request so the prophecy would be given with complete faith and not on the basis of anything already known about the person's situation.

Also, I laid down strict groundrules about no revealing of sin, or long Old Testament style prophecies, or anything other than what you said above - edification, exhortation and comfort. The words had to encourage the requesters in the Lord. I made it quite clear that I would post disclaimers about any inappropriate prophecies to make it known that I would not be supporting them. Not to say they were not of the Lord per se, but that I was not supporting them.

When others responded and gave prophecies, I encouraged their faith, and gave guidance where necessary. I reserved the guidance on specific prophecies for myself, and discouraged anyone else to comment on prophecies for specific people, unless it was the receiver who wished to comment on the prophecy given to them.

I also discouraged debate by those who wanted to argue, rather than request words for themselves, or to ministers words to others. It didn't worry me whether some disagreed with what we were doing, as long as they voiced their disagreement on their own thread and not this one.

Because I was strict about that, and had the support of the moderators, my thread was so successful, that it got so full that I had to start a second one.

One thing that did upset me was that some wanted continual repeats of words given to them. This felt to me like they were treating me as their personal horoscope. I think that receiving a word of prophecy is a special event and not a routine, every day happening. If a person wants daily guidance, the secret place of prayer and the Bible are the appropriate resources for that.

Also, I declined to give words for hatches, matches, or despatches (in other words babies expected, romantic, marital, or other personal relationships, and anything to do with impending or actual death.)

But for those who need a special word from the Lord about a situation they found themselves in, they were welcome to ask, and we ended up with a good team of developing prophesiers giving some good words for them; so much so that they did me out of a job in the end when I got burned out with giving so many words.

The fact that I became exhausted showed me that the real need for encouraging prophecies is so real for so many, and I am honoured that so many were helped at that time.

I am encouraged that you want to have a thread like this, and I hope that my experience and contribution helps in some way to achieve success and blessing.

There would be no question that it would not be appropriate to write down the phonetic equivalent to what you might have said in tongues and posted it on this thread -likewise "prophesying " in this context is equally unedifying and is devoid of any accountability

Paul makes a clear distinction between tongues/interpretation, and prophecy. This is quite clear in his teaching in ICorinthians14. Here is my exposition on that chapter which should make things clear to you:

It would be more appropriate for you to either request a word from someone or to contribute a word of prophecy yourself, rather than carry on a theoretical debate not consistent with the purpose of this thread.

A powerful proof that you know what you are talking about would be the exercise of your prophetic gift.

This thread is a huge turn around from the attitude of not wanting prophetic words periode on the board, for lack of accountability. I'm just a bit why there is now suddenly more accountability than before.
And there is one other thing *puts on baking gloves and protective sheild*... since we are in New Testament convenant... is anyone not concerned that people are going to come here before seeking the Lord?

BTW, the last question is based on the fact that I was one of those who had taken over Oscarr's encouragement thread once he had left. After him I was probably the one giving the most words, but I started to feel convicted by the Holy Spirit after a while since people were coming to me before seeking the Lord for themselves. Now I don't give personal words like that upon request anymore, unless I feel comfortable with it (discerned that they have actually sought the Lord), and the Lord tells me to speak words to them.

The Bible says to encourage one another,[SIZE=-1](Hebrews 3:13 NIV) But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. ... I believe that the Holy spirit gives discernment and if a person gives a prophetic word, always pray over it and ask God for confirmation. He may confirm it in scripture reading, in words of another, in a still small voice, etc. I guess the point is we are all called to encourage. So I pray that the Lord would bless and keep each one of you who read my words. That His face may shine upon you and that you are given His strength to endure daily trials and that through your drawing nearer to God, He says HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU.

I totally agree. I felt the same way, and yet I felt too soft hearted to refuse the requests. In the end I just had to back away. I think we have both learned from the experience.

But I think that the ministry of prophecy is a valuable tool and that we should not limit its use because some may misuse it by treating us as a convenient way of side stepping the responsibility for going to the Lord and finding guidance answers in the secret place with Him.

I can trust the Holy Spirit to direct such people back to the prayer closest if they did ask for a word without seeking Him first. I guess the theme of the prophecy would be 'seek my face and I will answer you in the secret place from my Word as you search its pages.'

By the way, I really appreciated your ministry in that thread. May it continue for the blessing of others.

God is showing me thatHe desires to use you in a powerful way He is showing me a worker in afield and you are directing other workers, He is saying that your heart is for the lost and that you will go forth into the field and that you will witness and minister and He will show signs and wonders and many will come in because of this. I for one cannot accept Zzubs post as prophecy because it lacks the center aligned text that is the mark of all internet prophecy!

Hey I just found out that we broke the rules, are not allowed to give prophecy at least personal ones, whether right or wrong. I really hope God doesnt give me anything oor I will be breaking that rule again

This is an example of a prophetic psalm:

Go to the thread on My Concern About Prophecy that is where I saw it. Someone said about the rule and asked and pdudgeon answered that is all I know but I know I will obey God and not man and whatever the consequences so be it
