I agree with this to a certain degree, I think. I will say I think there is a difference, but do thing sometimes it varys from person to person. People backslide and give up for various reasons, some realize that don't believe in God, Some feel that they are missing something and they are searching for that something, Some b/c the love the world and realize they can't choose both, I think there are catigoriezes that blacksliding after accepting God at a young age just like there are catigorizes where people who accepted God later on in life and blackslide after being saved for a few years. The truth is there should be that huge of a change for someone brought up as a Christian. It is called sanctification. As Hannah said , repentance is a daily thing and not a one time event. The person who grew up in the church and has convinced themselves they are not sinful is in worse shape than the sinner outside the church who knows they are sinful. The reason they backslide so often isn't because they missed out on something in the world. It is because they love the world instead of God and have convinced themselves that God winks at sin.
It is about having religion instead of really having God for them.
Be careful with this. It is more dangerous than people realize. Jesus got more angry at religious people who were proud of their own works than he did at the flagrant sinners outside of religion.
Believe me there is plenty of repenting for those who have grown up in church. And it never ends. If there is not radical change in your life since a year ago , you missed it somewhere. Don't let religious hypocrites lies to you about it. There is not this place we reach where we are not in need of deeper repentance and deeper sanctification.
