SOME THOUGHTS ON PROPHECY IN THE CHURCH
The New Testament prophets have a different ministry from the Old Testament. One should distinguish this and see the references in the NT such as Romans 12:6; 1 Corinthians 13:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:20, and note all references to one "prophesying". It speaks of ministering the truth, and one can see some statements here from the BibleCounsel web site:
- prophecy in the New Testament as noted also in several places, is needed for insight, an overview and understanding to maintain God's testimony, His will, purposes, and honor, and a few saints are especially called to this;
- prophets in the church are to guide and maintain God's testimony, with discernment and understanding in the ways and purposes of God, etc.;
This might be helpful to some readers.
