I put in an order for books to St. Anthony's Monastery in Arizona and when I called to give my credit card details, nobody was there, so I leave my number and they called me back today. It got me thinking, is there a proper way to address a monk over the telephone? Since all monks are called "father," you don't know whether they're priests or not, so do you ask for a blessing anyway? Just curious.

Yes, ask for a blessing, if he is a lay monk he will tell you.

Oops. Next time, I will know. I guess it is better to err on the upside than on the downside.

Also, I hope it wasn't improper to send my greetings to my godfather who is a novice there.
