  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My daughter's 6th birthday is coming up and she loves art. She colors constantly and gets excited about any art project that she does at church, school, or home. I was trying to think of some sort of project kits that I could get her for her birthday.

When I was younger I did the plastic canvas things and the potholders made out of the woven fabric bands (can't remember the name of those) but I don't remember how old I was or how complex those might be. She loves to watch me sew and can't wait until she's big enough to use the sewing machine, so I was thinking something with fabric or string might be fun for her.

She also would probably like the sun catchers and that type thing, but I was looking for something that would really capture the interest of a 6 year old.

Please help me with ideas. *beg* ;)

Here's kind of a neat idea (especially for an artist!) Get a long roll of paper, hang it up outside (maybe on a fence?) and let the kids paint. I think I would provide the kids with big adult sized t-shirts to protect their clothes.

Or they could decorate/paint a pot that could be used as a paintbrush holder. Sand art is fun (that's when you put layers of different colored sand in a bottle and put a cork on it--but fill it up all the way.

You can do all kinds of things with yarn, like make dolls. Let me know if you want instructions.

At craft stores there's usually a big section devoted to kid's crafts. My daughter and her friends loved "gelly paint n swirl".

I was always into crafts too when I was that age. How about:

"Catapillar on a Leaf"
"Decorating Your Own Picture Frame" or
"Making a Snow Globe"

If you like any of those, and want to find out what you need and how to do them, pm me. Or you can go to www.orientaltradingcrafts.com ! ;)
