• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Progress.

Might be time to start decriminalising it and then see about legalisation, tax and regulation.

What - gay marriage?
You mean you actually think that taxing the gay community to get married is a good thing...??

BBC News - Marijuana decriminalised in Washington state

Have a read of the article, look what else has become a legal right.

;)

The post modern war cry is "If it feels good do it", it doesn't matter if it fries your brain or damages your lungs, liver, heart etc!

I worked beside a man who smoked far too much marijuana over several years. He ended up a paranoid wreck who was unable to function socially, and in the end became unemployable. That is where the war cry too often leads far too many.

Those in favour of liberty should focus on the right to die. Legalising drugs is no where near as important.

I don't think anyone is saying that you should do it. Rather, it should be allowed. Whether it harms you or not doesn't change whether it should be legal. eg: Unhealthy food is bad for you, etc. Many things that are dangerous are legal.

If they want to it is their choice, if you don't want to that is your choice. Their choice to do drugs is no worse than your choice to go to church.

That might of been the effect on you, but many others doesn't experience this. We know that about 10% of people shouldn't smoke weed as they are highly disposed to get strong paranoia effects from it.

I take it you want to ban cigarettes and alcohol?

Being married to a GP for the last 10 years has help increase my insight, knowledge and understanding on these matters

Well I'm sure your wife/ husband, civil partner will inform you that drink is the biggest headache for the NHS. Not a joint or two.

My wife reliably informs me that any toxins that are regularly used, including the drugs that you refer to have longtem detrimental effects on the body including the brain. Often, like alcohol, it is later in life that it shows up, sadly by then the damage is done.

So far, weed has far fewer effects than either cigarettes or alcohol.

"Not surprisingly, marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty with thinking and problem solving, and problems with learning and memory. Research has shown that, in chronic users, marijuana's adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.2 As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time."

You'll have to excuse me if I don't accept the government's word on the matter when they fire the drug advisors for speaking out about the best medical evidence on the effect of drugs.

A study in The Lancet shows us this.

Alcohol and cigarettes are far more dangerous than weed.

The worst thing to do is to smoke it before you've finished puberty.

A 35-year study published August 2012 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and funded partly by NIDA and other NIH institutes provides objective evidence that, at least for adolescents, marijuana is harmful to the brain.[28] It was found that the persistent, dependent use of marijuana before age 18 showed lasting harm to a person's intelligence, attention and memory. Quitting cannabis did not appear to reverse the loss. However, individuals who started cannabis use after the age of 18 did not show similar declines.[35]
