• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Progress.

My wife reliably informs me that any toxins that are regularly used, including the drugs that you refer to have longtem detrimental effects on the body including the brain. Often, like alcohol, it is later in life that it shows up, sadly by then the damage is done.

I think you'll find that the jury are still out on the long term effects of weed.

Policy should be made on evidence, that takes time to gather.

In the meantime people do not need to use their ability to reason, and instead can blame the govt/NHS further down the line when it is discovered that for decades they were self harming!

Yep, that sounds about right for the culture that we live in today, where people are big on their rights but not so hot when it comes to taking responsibility for themselves and their own health.

So do you want to ban anything that causes self-harm?

Well weed isn't as damaging as either the two real damaging substances that are legal. So they don't have to worry really.

I wasn't born a Christian! For 37 years of my life I wasn't, and lived a life that was very different to what it is now. During those years I saw first hand the longterm effects of all sorts of illegal drugs including the one being discussed!

So, although you may convince others of your assurances...

I don't need to convince others of my assurances, I have medical studies.

With what? Only more studies can "counter" them. Over time the research will tend to a conclusion. Stories won't do anything to "counter" anything.

Like this?

"Not surprisingly, marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty with thinking and problem solving, and problems with learning and memory. Research has shown that, in chronic users, marijuana's adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.2 As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time."

You mean unsupported assertion from the government who's track record on drugs is to fire its advisor for speaking out about the effects of drugs? No thanks.

Odd how you don't like my studies which are more long term than the ones linked. Selective sourcing isn't helping.
