What boy and who or what is he prodding? Why none other than that very ‘son in the faith’, calling all to ruffle every carnal feather in the stack, Hallelujah!

Luther is not wrong in translating παιδεία by “correction,” inasmuch as in N. T. usage it is applied to the education which not only developes the existing good, but also counteracts existing evil. - Meyer​

So much for the text being annulled by Church 'tradition' or meant only for some previous event or point to simply pass away and become a passive vacuum. How else do you guard the young?

and they will turn their ears away from the truth,
