I find one major problem with Hip Hop and Rap, either Christian or Secular, it is too self exalting.

Kj-52 and The Cross Movement aren't that bad, but i have the Uprok Mixtape 2 in my cd player and it is very self exalting. Like rappers say that others aren't so good. It is not focused on God as the number one priority. I just think that rappers should focus more on God then fame. I don't really know...please write you opinion down and feel free to criticize my view.

I have a problem too! My best friend has started to listen to secular rap. He says he listen to it because he thinks the beats are cool. I have a cd that has some cool beats on it too. I don't listen to secular rap. Do think its wrong to listen to it because of the beats?

and what do I do about my friend?

Well the thing about hip hop is it has always been about big uppin yourself since the very beginning in the 70's and that has follow even into christian hip hop now. I really dont have a problem with it and I dont believe Jesus has to be said every 2 lines to know the cats rappin are christian or whatever. Its the same with the other elements of hip hop also with b boyin graff and dj's battlin and provin you the best is part of the culture its kind of like a sport the way I see it, but I do see where other christians might find a problem with it so different opinions about it is cool with me. Anyways if you guys are interested in a mixtape cd my crew put out you can listen or download it for free here http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/lossprevention2.htm

Actually one of the main reason I don't listen to hip-hop and rap a whole lot is, becuz it seems even with the Christian artist they talk so much about being dedicated to hip-hop, and hip-hop being the #1 thing in their lives and just a lot of stuff like that really annoys me. As far as being self exalting, yeah that can be really annoying too, but I know that some Christian rap artist only do it in teasing and use it to show that hey, they're only imperfect humans too. Like I know John Reuben does that when he's kidding around, but you can tell that he's just kidding.

that is one of the major reasons that i don't like hip hop or rap....secular anyway. and there are of course other reasons that i don't like secular hip hop/rap. i usually don't listen to that kind of music. i have to be in the right mood, but i really enjoy kj-52, john rueben, grits and paul wright. i don't have a problem with them, i think they're really good.

Have none of you heard of T-Bone? KJ-52 may be good if you are into Eminem but T-Bone brings it west coast style. If you don't believe me, check out the new movie Fighting Temptations, where he is the criminal that raps. This guy is off the hook. He is also going to be coming on the Hero tour with Paul Wright, another white rapper who is a lot of fun to listen to when he freestyles. Want to know more ask me or check out Herouniverse.com
T-Bone is for real, actually growing up in the ghettos in California, knowing the truth set him free and saved his life. No doubt Jesus is the focus of all his ministry and his music. Give him a listen, you won't be disappointed. His older stuff is definitely better than his latest album. :D

I don't know what music you guys are listening to but the majority of the Christian hip hop I listen to is GOD exalting... Cross Movement, GRITS, Corey Red and Precise, KJ52, Souljahz, and the list goes on... I think a lot of you have a bias. Not all rap music is the same, just like not all rock is.

A lot of artists PERIOD exalt themselves... not just hip hop, so don't generalize.

I agree.. which reminds me of some lyrics by subcultre deviants aka nathan smart and company:
"but i'm confused scine I don't take the normal route,
I'm not considered a Christian rapper I'm kicked out,
Why is it, when a punk rocker exhibits the song about the lifestyle and the talents they've been given they can still be Christian,
but if I talk about skills i'm a secular rapper just thinkin of that it gives me chills, what about R&B? can you sing about fun? or does that mean you don't love the Holy One? so don't judge me unless you're sittin on top"
