I have a problem.
Almost an year ago i did mastrubation.
I didn't wanted to do it anymore because it's a sin.
Then i did something really stupid.
I sweared to God that i didn't do any mastrubation anymore.
And if i did then he can send me to hell.
I know it is really stupid.
I did almost one week no mastrubation, but later i did.
I think that this is an unforgivable sin, and that i'm going to hell now because i sweared to God that i didn't mastrubate anymore.
I'm feeling really guilty because that sin.

Will God send me to hell because of this?
Will God forgive me?

Sorry for my bad english.

One of the first things that was said in scriptures when man was approached by God or by one of His messengers was, "Fear not". The reason why is because we tremble in the presence of God because we are made aware that we are not holy. But God wants to make us holy!

You made a promise you cannot keep to God. We've all done it. Is there forgiveness? Most definitely!!! Christ died because none of us can keep our promises to God perfectly and we cannot make ourselves holy as we need to be in the presence before God. God washes us clean in our baptisms and clothes us in Christ's righteousness.

Fear not. Any sin you've committed is forgiven. Don't make promises you cannot keep, but instead look daily as a fresh start no matter what yesterday brought...and be the little Christ that God is turning you into.

MY DEAR BROTHER,

The only sin that is unforgivable is the one we are too proud to ask forgiveness for. PERIOD!

i made exactly the same vow many years ago regarding my alcohol consumption and, like you, quickly broke the vow. The guilt and fear regarding this broken vow lasted for many years, as everytime i would begin to feel close to God, Satan would whisper in my ear, "But what about your broken vow" and the old fear and guilt would come back, stronger than ever.

Talk to God about this--He knows that there is no way a sinner can stop sinning, all we can do is struggle to the best of our ability against our sins, and when we fall, ask--AND ACCEPT--His forgiveness. (If we could stop sinning on our own, of course, we wouldn't have the need of a Savior.)

Although He knew you better than to take your vow at face-value in the first place, ask Him that the vow be made null and void, and you be forgiven for breaking it. (This is for your benefit, as God has already dealt with the issue.)

If masturbation continues to be a problem for you, talk to your Pastor/Priest/Elder/Spiritual Counselor about it and get help and support in dealing with it because it can become a problem in its own right. You might even consider getting a copy of:
Every Man's Battle: Winning the War on Sexual Temptation One Victory at a Time (The Every Man Series) (Paperback)
by Stephen Arterburn (Author), Fred Stoeker (Author), Mike Yorkey (Editor) which is available from Amazon.com or any Christian Bookstore (at least in the United States) i think you will find it helpful.

Anyway, i now have Peace with God over my unfortunate vow--may you come to experience the same Peace. DO NOT LET satan PLAY WITH YOUR HEAD!

A BOND-SLAVE OF CHRIST,
ephraim

I agree with the posters above, ask for forgiveness and God will forgive. Just let this teach you that only God decides who goes to hell, and making vows like that is not advisable!

Don't give up your fight with masturbation. It can be beaten, God did it for me, He most certainly can do it for you! Two things I learned: you need to start the fight at the source. Temptation comes in many forms, the obvious and controllable ones like porn need to go. Second, you need to control "erotic" thoughts, that means you don't let lustful thoughts play around in your mind. If you see a good looking woman, leave it at that. Don't let your thoughts run rampant. You can't always control the input from the world around you, but your output is usually controllable.

I can only speak for myself, but getting rid of masturbation was like being freed from something.

hey little dude,
like the good advice above has already said, don't worry about it.
yeah the vow you made was foolish, but your young and weve all done stuff like that man, and Gods smarter than we are and he works around that stuff to help us out even when were do goofy stuff like that.
your good man. no worries.
You were sad and truely repentent...thats why you made that vow in the first place...Gods not gonna send you to hell.
as for what you did, most people struggle with that same thing so dont feel so bad, and God forgives.
But it would be best to try hard to stop now if it hasn't already become a habit in you, becuase its rough...real hard to stop.

God is not that concerned about a young teenager discovering something about his developing sexuality. God made those hormones to kick in about your age, and they sure are pretty potent.

It is not a hell issue in any way. It is very likely that you are going to go in a straight line on this issue. God is well aware of that. Masturbation should never be a faith threatening thing. It's just not important enough for that, even though it looms large for many teenagers.

Dear Rody,

God knew you couldn't keep that promise even before you made it and He forgives you. You have shown that you are repentful for breaking your promise so don't worry. God knows that you meant it and He knows that you tried. God bless you for being so faithful at such an early age. May the peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit always.

I think everyone has great advice instead of swearing it's alot better to promise espically if you are swearing with his name it b/c than you would be saying his name in vein.Promise God rather that you will try instead of swearing or making a promisse like that. But if you haven't already you need to ask God for forgivness and don't foroget everyone sins somehow some way. We all fall short of the glory of God but the most important thing is getting back up again and not staying down. I am here for you. Feel free to pm me anytime if you need advice or prayer or anything:)

There is always forgiveness with God brother.

I however struggle with the same thing, and at one time did the same thing you did. God forgived me however, and I was able to move on. however I still touch.

This situation, that I have as well, is in fact why I joined these forums today.

For the past several months I have been questioning if masturbation is a sin or not. The bible seemed to be very quiet on that matter. I can honestly say people, that when I do touch, I can do it without lust. Therefore, how can a bodily function that god has given us be sin, if there is no lust attached to it?

If God hated masturbation, then why would he even have it exist, because he is God, he could have easily removed that function from our bodies, and just make it so we can only emit sperm when having sex?

Consider this. If masturbation without lust is in fact sin, then why does it give life, and not death? One of the main things God teaches us in The Bible is that sin can produce nothing but death. I most certainly hope everyone agrees. Masturbation gives life, because science has proven that masturbation is healthy, it relieves stress and it lowers the chance of cancer, and it does other things as well.

I have come across some scripture that most certainly makes it look like God, in fact does support masturbation.

Proverbs 5:15-20 is where I come to this conclusion, what it says is worded different from version to version of the bible, but the meaning is still the same.

15 Drink water from your own cistern,
running water from your own well.
16 Should your springs overflow in the streets,
your streams of water in the public squares?
17 Let them be yours alone,
never to be shared with strangers.
18 May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
19 A loving doe, a graceful deer—
may her breasts satisfy you always,
may you ever be captivated by her love.
20 Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress?
Why embrace the bosom of another man's wife?

Wouldn't fountain, cistern (like a well) be referring to our sperm? Wouldn't that mean that in this scripture, God is saying that masturbation is a tool to be used to protect ourselves from the terrible sin that is Adultery? I don't know about you, but me being 17 years old, I get my sexual hormones built up so much that I need to be able to release them through masturbation ,so that I do not give into lust or adultery.

This is the conclusion I have come up with.

I do have some more to say however, Masturbation can be used wrongly, as i've mentioned in my last post. This goes the same for any part of our bodies. Some examples of misuse would be addiction, having lust attached with it, doing it with another person ( as the scripture above says), and the list could go on and on.

So my advice for the people who do misuse it (with the addition of lust and so forth) and cannot do the act of masturbation without misusing it, then I would suggest that you pray to God about this, and ask him what you should do in this matter.

I feel alot better now.
I asked forgiveness for this sin, actually i did it 1 year ago.
And keep feeling guilty about that sin.
Afraid being send to hell for this because i said that God could send me to hell if i breaked the oath.
But now i don't feel depressed anymore and i hope that i don't feel depressed and guilty anymore because this sin.
I'm happy that God forgives this sin.
