problem with printer

I got Windows XP (home) and a Lexmark X63 printer/fax/scanner. When I try to print from MS Word or something off the net it takes forever. When I click print the pre-print screen pops up like always and I click OK, and it just sits there for a minute or two before it starts the print job. But if I click test print from the Lexmark file it starts printing instantly. It never mattered how big the file was or where it came from it would print instantly. But now it is like the old days where you had to wait forever before it started. Anyway, if anybody knows what it may be, could you please help out?

Don't know much about Lexmark printers, and whether or not they are supposed to take a minute to print, but it never hurts to uninstall/reinstall the driver.

Go to Printers and Faxes and right click on your printer. Select properties. Go to the Advanced tab and look for "Print directly to printer" radio button about half way down and select that. Select Ok and you should do better from there. Elsewise you can click on "Start Printing Immediately" under "Spool print programs so program finishes printing faster". Try it and see how you make out.
