  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Im not certian that this is correct! I have had a few different cd burning programs and i had a couple that when the cd's were burnt certain cdroms wouldnt read them. I have since ben using Nero, (nero express) and i have had better success than with other programs.

I have had friends tell me that they have found different cdrom brands to work better than others, so you might want to try another brand of cd. But also waite for another reply to see if someone else has a different answer.

My notebook computer reads DVD's, CD's and it doubles as a burner. But for some reason it isn't reading burnt CD's. I need to transfer information from my other computer to this one.
What CD burning software is on the computer you are burning from and what is on the notebook? If you are using Packet Writing (direct burn or direct CD) and the other computer uses a different program or there isn't one installed then the dvd/cd-rw drive in the notebook may not be able to read it being it's from another computer without the software being the same.....I have had this problem before and I just installed the software on both systems and I was able to read the cd's.....

The ink on a burnt CD is difficult for the laser to read. If the laser lens is dirty or not aligned perfectly it will often only generate errors while trying to read a burnt CD.

First thing you can do is pick up a lens cleaning kit. It is a CD with a little cleaning tab connected to the CD and often you will add a solution to the tap for a proper polish of the lens.

If your lens is misaligned or even damaged, which is easy to do on a laptop, then you will need to take it in to be repaired or replaced (check your warranty).

Other than that, make sure you are using the CD burner software bundle that came with your system and keep all the drivers up to date. CD burners really do not have a very long life span.

How much data do you need to transfer? Alternative is to upload it to someplace on the Internet and download it into your other computer if it aint too much data, or grab a couple 10/100 Ethernet cards and a cat cable for quick transfer(best way). You can also hook the modems together with a telephone wire or even run a serial cable between the two.

Cheeper Alternative then picking up network cards and cable.... go get a USB thumbdrive, then you can just copy your files onto the thumbdrive, unplug it, then plug it into the other computer and copy the files off.......you can get a 64-128mb one for around $30-40, sometimes even cheeper.....
