Problem creating website, please help.

I am not a techno, so i will make this as simple as comes naturally to me!

I am trying to create a website, this option has been made available to me through my Internet Service Provider, and is free ...well, here's the problem:

I spent hours setting things out and then when i had done it, ( it's unfinished so far, but i was allowed the option to view the site as others view it), and, well, nothing happens - I just keep getting - THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED message. I am really dissapointed. I tried fiddling around with browser settings and i downloaded the help file for the websetup, but i haven't a clue what to do next - i tried to request help from the ISP, but they only give useless automated responses......all you wonderful computer folks, please help!

hmm not much to go on. Did you type in the right url? Often it will be like http://www.myhost.myisp/~my_main_index_page_location.shtml which may be index.htm or what ever under your named account after the ~ (../~my_name). I'm guessing it is in HTML anyway. Knowing more about the host service and what tools you are using would help for your error message is pretty generic. It's just saying there is nothing there.

Ok I didn't quite fully understood what did u do and what was the problem but here is the steps if you are a begenner.
1. You design a site with any web design program ( I myself prefer either Dreamweaver Or GoLive ) but you can go for easier programs like front page if you want.
2. Now comes the part which I think is the problem, You have to name the first page index.html so that the browser can know that this is your first page and the page you want other to view first.
3.In ALl the programs I mentioned you can preview the site while you are offline , ( in dreamweaver press F12 )
4.Upload your site to your isp via ftp or through their website.
5.type the address they gave you for your your personal website
6.Reply me if all these steps you already knew and if I didn't understand you

i would suggest going to a site somewhere and learning about web developement, itll take you like 10-20 min. Sounds like you could use a little help with how it actually works. pm me if you have a specific question
