  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The website mom'logic' is rather an oxy-moron, but not because of this particular stellar blog post. Most of the moms on this site wouldn't know logic if it bit them in the rear. Notice how they spin out of control like tazmanian devils at this woman's opinion. If her opinion were really as meaningless as they say, they certainly wouldn't have had these reactions. (look to the page where it invites comments).

Oh yeah. She hit a BIG nerve. And she's 100 percent correct.

Clearly comparing vegetarianism to abortion is the most mind blowing logical connection there has ever been. How have I never thought of that before?

A fetus is just that, a conglomeration of cells, but sometimes we want to attach special meaning to particular things, even though it doesn't make logical sense. If you want to refer to your fetus as a baby, you're going to attach the notion that this is a baby to it. That doesn't make it so, but in your mind, that is a very real thing. Some people treat their pets like they are their children. It doesn't make it so, but to the people with the pets, it's very real. Please follow my logic and don't jump to the equation that pets = fetuses.

100 percent correct?

Far from it. Actually, the reasoning behind that article is kinda daft.

Mourning after a miscarriage has nothing to do with the status of the fetus, and everything to do with the hopes and visions attached to the pregnancy. They mourn for what might have been, for the babies the fetuses might have become if everything had worked out. (Additionally, there's the hormonal factor to be considered as well: you're not really in control of your emotions when your hormones run amuck.)

That still doesn't turn a 9-week-old fetus into an independent, self-aware organism. And it doesn't turn mourning pro-choicers into hypocrites, either.

Ah, the 'The argument must be correct, since it upsets people' theory.
I regret the necessity of Godwining this thread so early, but it's a bit like saying 'The Holocaust must be a hoax, because so many people get upset by the deniers'.

What is this writer's point, exactly? 'If you believe in reproductive rights, you have no business complaining when your own reproductive system goes wrong?'
Most elective abortions happen early- within the first 12 weeks. Many miscarriages happen similarly early.
A miscarriage at 4 and a half months is very different from an abortion at 5 weeks. The miscarried foetus was wanted- planned for, tentatively named, a due date was worked out, baby clothes and equipment are being bought, hopes for the baby's future were being thought out.
What is lost at that point is not just the growing cells, but the hopes and dreams. The potential. Factor in the shock value of suddenly realising what is happening, and it's pretty darn traumatic.

Abortions at 4 and a half months are also traumatic, by the way. They'll be for medical reasons. The foetus is seriously malformed, or dead already but not rejected by the body.

The attitude expressed in that article is horrendous. Vicious, unpleasant, and thoughtless. It's unsurprising that other people got upset and angry.

Moms are incapable of logic? That seems kind of a broad brush don't you think?

good ole fashioned limpid insight.

That doesn't quite answer the question. Is your insight due to being envious of women who have children because you don't have any yourself, or do you have several and have found that your mental capacity decreased with each childbirth?

Like people getting up in arms to deny women certain personal choices regarding reproductive health?
Did you read the blog post? I assume you did. What did she say about a woman’s right to choose? You can go back and refresh your memory if you need to.
