  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok, I went 4 pages in and didn't see this topic..sooo ^_^

I watched this movie this weekend and I'm left thinking.. wasn't think about the boy? ^^ so yea, anyway, I thought this movie was rad. Don't get me wrong, I saw it years ago, but I just bought it and watched it again and remembered.

Y'know I really think that movie .. well it obviously had a ton of spiritual things in it. I know that the Japanese as a nation believe in many many spirits or kami... so like the Forest-god that was probably based off of one they believe irl. That movie is packed with soo much analogy it's not funny, it almost gave me a headache b/c around every turn it was something else. Just like how the ppl of Iron-town was trying to kill the forest-god (spirit?) so they could build more and make more money. That seriously is happening. Businesses and media is trying to kill off religion and belief in God for the sake of a buck. They are terrible with television, they let anything get on tv and nudity and cussing is coming to be more of the "norm" just for the sake of ratings. It's so sad. But more like the story.. about 2 blocks from where I went to college, there was a lot of wooded area and across the way was a mall. Would you believe a year ago they decided to cut down that area to make ANOTHER mall!! I went by there yesterday and the place is bussling (sp?). So I could really relate to what that was about.

How about the relationship b/t the Princess and the dude (yes, I forgot his name that was terrible cool b/c she was all bad stuff but she STILL fell in love, and with a human at that. She knew she was human but b/c of the awful way the humans were towards the animals and the forest, she did everything she could to not be human. Don't we do that too?

^^ well I loved the movie, it was action, romance and comedy and not overloaded with neither or. And the best part was when hero dude was taking the Princess away from Iron-town and he had just got shot, he fell to the grounds and IMMEDIATE :D immediately the wolf began chewing on his head! ^_^ I'm sorry that was just TOOOOOO funny.. ^_^ *rewind* ^_^

Yes :) It's Miyazaki I think? I probably spelled his name wrong. He did Naussica valley of the wind and a ton of other stuff as well. I really enjoy his works. :D

I absolutely love Mononoke-hime. I love Miyazaki's work. I think it's great for someone with such a loud voice to proclaim the need to protect our earth as we protect ourselves.

I also love Japanese mythology, so it was really up my alley :D

this movie, princess mononoke, was enjoyable. when i watched it it was very cool. it seems like that they use movies to send like hidden messages or propaganda in asian movies. whether its on purpose or not i dont know but i sort of noticed it.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that?
The only propaganda in this film was that of the greenthumb Miyazaki (who I love), about taking care of the world instead of just worrying about our own profit. A good bit of propaganda, that :)

He didn't do the actual translation, but he "cleaned up" the script at the end.

I like Mononoke the best of all Miyazaki movies (although Totoro is a close second).

-Chris

Well it was translated first, I don't think Gaiman can speak Japanese. But Gaiman did basically write it. He had to take the translation and make it understandable for western audiences. And he did a good job of it.

Disney's dubs are very well done. They tend to go through a lot of effort to make the script understandable for the western audience, but still keep it true to it's original form. Which is kinda hard, even when Miyazaki starts introducing things that were common in his childhood, but younger japanese crowds have never heard of it.

I finally forgave Disney when they released Castle in the Sky. Now I am just waiting for them to release the dub of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, which they will hopefully digitally remaster as it's over 20 years old *drools*.
