  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I liked the animation, and the colours but i was uneasy at all the mentions of "gods" etc. But then everything like that worries me....

I completely understand how you feel. But the way I look at it is this: Everything (anime included) has something we can learn from it. It can be something like from Princess Mononoke, where everyone saw Iron Town in a different light. Or it can be something like FLCL (there are some crazy people in this world). How we interpret things depends on your beliefs.

I don't believe in gods of the forrest or anything like that, but on the other hand, I believe that Ashitaka represents a far better 'role model' than most pop culture personalities.

Another way to look at this is to look at Ah! My Goddess. Belldandy and her sisters are reffered to as 'goddesses'. That bothered me for a while, till I noticed that the 'goddesses' were far more like angels than anything else. They refer to an Almighty, and their job is to help humans.

I guess my short answer is: If I like the moral of the story, I can overlook a few 'non-Christian' elements.

I hope all that made sense.

Well, as for Belldandy... she's actually called Verdandi. Urd and Skulld are correct though. They are goddesses from northern mythology...

Personally it doesn't bother me at all. Just thought it was cool that they did some research to use nothern folklore as a reference.

Yes, according to Norse mythology, the three Norns have domain over the three aspects of time. Past (Urd), present (Verthanthi), and furture (Skuld). Yggdrasil, 'the tree of life', also makes an apperance as the computer system that the Almighty made to control the universe. It was kind of neat how they adapted it.
