Australia also has had an emergency alert system for several years - and it saves lives. It's generally used to trigger public action (like preparing for evacuation) in bushfires or flooding events or cyclones. It's sometimes used to warn of extreme heat and it can also be used to seek public help for missing persons or advise of dangerous criminals on the run.

During Australia's infamous 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires the alert system was used to send out millions of mobile text and landline voice alerts. In the event of a general emergency the ABC (public broadcaster) provides a continuous 24 hour update on fire/flood conditions and related warnings.

It was last used a couple of days ago to cover several days of serious fires in Victoria and may be needed to cover imminent flooding - in the same places!

The Australian bushfire season has already started and we're not yet halfway through Spring.

Anyone who puts emergency alert systems in the Conspiracy Theory basket needs to visit Australia during a typical fire season.

I guess my Covid vax didn't take yet again. I've had all of the schedule boosters and haven't mutated into Jason Mamoa much to my wife's disappointment.
