• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just seems pretty ridiculous outside of a select few scenarios.

If I lived somewhat remote then sure, I'd definitely stock up on some food and water and other bits and bobs. Outside of that, I don't really see the point unless it's situational (Like New York getting bad weather).

A lot of the preppers I've seen are nuts, which probably isn't helping to sell me on it.

I saw you changed your flag though -- I can imagine with your other one that you may have lived remote, though?

I think it is highly relevant if you consider the aspect of natural disasters and their impact on society and the community.

Following these natural disasters (feel free to ask me about any particular ones), particularly large-scale disasters then that might cause for a situation known as 'WROL' (Without rule of law). It is somewhat exaggerated on shows like doomsday preppers but the criminological understanding of it is valid in terms of the social contract and the rule of law.

I don't go overboard, but I'm prepared for bad weather, power outages, etc.. I've got some water jugs stored, canned goods, camp stove, flashlights, batteries, and a small generator. I'm also a ham radio operator. Since we've had some wild weather at times, wind damage, floods, and power failures, it doesn't hurt to be ready for things like that.

I'm not a *have three months of rations ready to go at a moment's notice* type prepper....that being said, I am a guy that will keep a change of clothes, a blanket, and some water in his car...in my house I also have a camping bag that I legitimately take camping, but it's typically ready to go and sitting in the same room as my gun safe.

If I had to get the heck out of dodge, in 5 minutes I'd have a rifle, a pistol, some basic camping stuff, and enough water for about a week....maybe that does make me a moderate prepper.

I recognize that there's a (small) chance that some disaster will occur and I'll be ill-prepared, but I don't see myself having enough will to live in that scenario, anyway. If civilization collapses, I'm fine with not being around to watch it happen.

I'll probably feel differently when I have kids, but I still don't think the odds are high enough to justify prepping.

I am. I try to keep well stocked on Beer at all times. Nothing like running low on beer supply.

Lol. :D ...Well, you could use your stash of beer to barter with people when the end comes. Haha.

Meh, there is a place for it, so long as you don't go overboard. The only time I really prepped was a few years ago when there was the big gun scare, everyone thought the goverment was going to take away guns, not through brute force(I and many others would shoot anyone forcefully coming into my home, threating me, and stealing my property) but through regulations and such. 7.62 ammo(used in ak's, sks's ,rpk's, ect.) isn't cheap to begin with, and ar-15's started selling like hotcakes. Then the ammo for for ar-15's which is .223 was wiped out completely, factors making .22LR converted and started making .223 ammo because there was such a demand for it. I live in the south, LOTS of people have guns, and every single day there was a huge line at the various stores that were smart enough to ration ammo per day. I'm not horribly worried about food, we could hunt, and many around where I live have gardens and so crops arn't a huge deal, but the last thing I wanted is to be in a bad situation and run out of ammo. Better to have it and not need it. That said, I'm glad people regained there senses and the government didn't do anything stupid, sadly almost all that ammo has been shot up for fun :/

There are two calibers for AR-15's. One is the 5.56/.223 and the 7.62/.308.
