  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There is a very common Theme amongst most of our threads here, and that is the worry of not having kids for the rest of our lives, and not having some of the benefits that children provide. (Yes, Yes, Believe it or not, children do have a few benefits)

So like good estate planners, Please use the follow list to prepare yourself for a Childless Future!!!

You may find yourself not being able to live without these benefits and want to reconsider your perspective!!

1) Who will take care of you when you’re old?

2) Who will inherit all your junk, err, emm I mean Family hierlooms?

3) How will you keep your family name Going? (if it needs going, all Smith’s may proceed to question 4)

4) How will you pass along all the knowledge that you’ve gained through the course of your lifetime?

5) How will you remain up to date on all the latest trends, without a child to tell you what is Cool and Trendy?

6) Who will teach you how to operate your holograph players and transporters, when they’re available in the future?

7) Who will you annoy/bother/pester when you are bored?

Well that is all the benefits that I can think of right now, If you know more, please let me know and I will add them.

Truth be told, I think most of these are stupid as 90% of the people i know don't do any of these things for there parents, with the exception of maybe number 3.

1) Who will take care of you when you’re old?
A paid proffessional, I have retirement savings.

2) Who will inherit all your junk, err, emm I mean Family hierlooms?
I really don't care.

3) How will you keep your family name Going? (if it needs going, all Smith’s may proceed to question 4)
My Brother has two sons, my Uncle (fathers side) has one son, Good luck to those three.

4) How will you pass along all the knowledge that you’ve gained through the course of your lifetime?
Through random post on internet forums.

5) How will you remain up to date on all the latest trends, without a child to tell you what is Cool and Trendy?
Unfortunetly I will permanently stuck in the 90's.

6) Who will teach you how to operate your holograph players and transporters, when they’re available in the future?
Yeah Right!! I've been waiting for my teleporter for a long time!!

7) Who will you annoy/bother/pester when you are bored?
Mostly my wife, but also, people who bother to read my random internet forum post.

1) Who will take care of you when you’re old?

With any luck, I'll be living in one of those retirement homes with a professional chef, a private lake, and all that kind of stuff.

2) Who will inherit all your junk, err, emm I mean Family hierlooms?

Most of it is crap, so it will be sold by whoever probates my estate. I have some priceless glassware that I want to donate to a museum.

3) How will you keep your family name Going? (if it needs going, all Smith’s may proceed to question 4)

I have a breeder cousin with the same last name. We'll be OK.

4) How will you pass along all the knowledge that you’ve gained through the course of your lifetime?

I'm writing a couple of books.

5) How will you remain up to date on all the latest trends, without a child to tell you what is Cool and Trendy?

I have my wife for that. She's the self-appointed aribter of what is "hip" and "cool" in our house.

6) Who will teach you how to operate your holograph players and transporters, when they’re available in the future?

I can read an instruction manual.

7) Who will you annoy/bother/pester when you are bored?

My cats. They do a fine job of it already.

I only care about the first thing, I am a bit afraid to die alone - my husband is 10 years older than me, and we're not rich. I guess we should save more so I can hire a help when I'm old. This doesn't really keep me awake at night, though, only twice a year maybe. And if you have kids you still don't have any guarantee that they will look after you when you're old. But in all honesty, this is the only benefit of having kids that I could think of. And it's not enough.

I don't care who gets our stuff when we're dead. Our cats need a good home, that's all. And my name lives on through my brother's kids; my husband's name isn't mine anyway (although I do use it sometimes) so I don't really care about that one, and it's not exactly rare so it won't die out.

...So like good estate planners, Please use the follow list to prepare yourself for a Childless Future!!!...

This is great! ^_^

1) Who will take care of you when you’re old?
My little sister. I've "mothered" her for years, plus she has a degree in "old people" so she'll know just what home to put me in.

2) Who will inherit all your junk, err, emm I mean Family hierlooms?
The local landfill. Anything I have is sentimental stuff and nothing worth anything monetary.

3) How will you keep your family name Going? (if it needs going, all Smith’s may proceed to question 4)
Ha! My husband has so many cousins who love pumping out babies that this won't be a problem.

4) How will you pass along all the knowledge that you’ve gained through the course of your lifetime?
I don't have a response for this one... like children listen to their parents knowledge anyway. ;)

5) How will you remain up to date on all the latest trends, without a child to tell you what is Cool and Trendy?
By watching What Not to Wear.

6) Who will teach you how to operate your holograph players and transporters, when they’re available in the future?
Probably my dog because by that time we'll be understand our pets language...kind of like how some people have learned Klingon.

7) Who will you annoy/bother/pester when you are bored?
My dog, my husband, my sister, and if they're all gone I'll just pester whoever my caregiver is.

1) Who will take care of you when you’re old?
If I make it to old (I have my doubts) then I'm sure I can find an assisted living facility to move into. Barring that, I have nieces, nephews, and even step-family that I might be able to impose upon in a very worst case scenario.

2) Who will inherit all your junk, err, emm I mean Family hierlooms?
See above: nieces, nephews, step-kids and grandkids. I have charities I'd love to support as well.

3) How will you keep your family name Going? (if it needs going, all Smith’s may proceed to question 4)
I'm not a Smith but it's sure close, so I'll move on. ;)

4) How will you pass along all the knowledge that you’ve gained through the course of your lifetime?
Bwaaahahaha! :D ^_^ :D

5) How will you remain up to date on all the latest trends, without a child to tell you what is Cool and Trendy?
MTV 3: Videos for Geezers

6) Who will teach you how to operate your holograph players and transporters, when they’re available in the future?
I'm a techie, I'll manage. ;)

7) Who will you annoy/bother/pester when you are bored?

My dog, no doubt. Will they still have politicians in the future? How about cable news anchors? Will there still be people judging me for not having kids and resigning myself to a solitary life in my old age? Then I think I've got it covered.

1) Who will take care of you when you’re old?

It's not like I'm going to remember anybody anyway. I'm old and forgetful.

2) Who will inherit all your junk, err, emm I mean Family hierlooms?

The bank. You don't take anything with you when you die anyway.

3) How will you keep your family name Going? (if it needs going, all Smith’s may proceed to question 4)

Ok, that really IS up to us to do... but still not a good reason for having a child.

4) How will you pass along all the knowledge that you’ve gained through the course of your lifetime?

Make a web page for other family members to view.

5) How will you remain up to date on all the latest trends, without a child to tell you what is Cool and Trendy?

It won't matter anymore, and all old people dress the same. Old women wear flowered blouses with cotton pants just under their bust, and a curly perm, and old people's parfume from the Bay. I'm all over it.

6) Who will teach you how to operate your holograph players and transporters, when they’re available in the future?

I won't be able to drive let alone walk to a transporter. I'll be too busy having my afternoon nap.

7) Who will you annoy/bother/pester when you are bored?

Everyone, when I unknowingly ask them the same question 20 times.

HAHAHA!!! Ok, but jokes aside, those are some really good questions! We're not ready for a child yet, and I don't see us having one ANY time soon... but it definately is food for thought. Thanks for posting those! :)

1) Who will take care of you when you’re old?

If we can't take care of ourselves, we'll get a professional to take care of us.

2) Who will inherit all your junk, err, emm I mean Family hierlooms?

The Salvation Army Thrift Store.

3) How will you keep your family name Going? (if it needs going, all Smith’s may proceed to question 4)

I do not see the importance of keeping a family name going. What is the big deal with that, anyway?

4) How will you pass along all the knowledge that you’ve gained through the course of your lifetime?

I'll pass on my knowledge through my writing, and my husband will pass on his knowledge through his teaching and research.

5) How will you remain up to date on all the latest trends, without a child to tell you what is Cool and Trendy?

I don't see the importance of being trendy as we get older.

6) Who will teach you how to operate your holograph players and transporters, when they’re available in the future?

We're smart people. We know how to read. And I'm sure holograph players will come with instruction manuals.

7) Who will you annoy/bother/pester when you are bored?

I have no desire to annoy, bother, or pester anyone. And I am one of those weird people who never gets bored. How could I be bored when there are still books I haven't read yet?
