Mr Logic, Electric Skeptic, you made the point in a indirect way.
Some atheists do have a I´m more intelligent than you because Im a atheist attitude. I vey much like i´m hollier than you because I'm a Christian (or moslem or jewish). Is what I belive makes me superior attutide that alienates people. It should be, what I do makes me a good person, not what I believe.
And Mr Skeptic. divorsing or deconverting a woman because she choosed to believe is not supose to bit just as intolerant as divorsing or trying to convert a person because she is an atheist?. Again I believe what you are together and not your position of the existance or not of a personal GOD should define intepersonal relationships. I think there is a lot of prejuice in atheists too. Theists are not the only culprits.

i think God blesses everyone with some basic knowledge of Him and some basic knowledge of good and evil... these are gifts... and both should be cultivated. fortunately God helps us do this if we desire it. if we choose this, then our personalities, beliefs and even morals will develop into something different... even though we retain that innate sense of God and morality...

I'm not defending it. I am simply telling you why it is there. Nobody likes to be told they are stupid. When someone makes it a point to deliberately tell the majority that they are stupid and backwards it should come as no surprise that other people don't like them

Better than telling everyone they are evil sinner headed for eternal hellfire for believing in the wrong or no god, as opposed to the one true god.
It IS stupid to believe things that there is no evidence for and that even worse than that- contradict the evidence and sound argumentation and reason.
If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, quacks like a duck, tastes like a duck{mmmm},and lives like a duck- it's probably a duck!

:scratch:Sounds like a lot of christians I've meet right here on CF.
:idea:Maybe it has nothing to do with beliefe but with they way people treat others?

Actually, you seem to see my point. I wouldn't discriminate against a person simply for failure to believe in God (I believe that such a person is condemning his own soul, but that wouldn't lead me to treat him rudely). But I certainly do discriminate against atheists who arrogantly express their beliefs. Discrimination based on personal conduct is a legitimate form of discrimination. If atheists don't want to be the most hated group in America, then maybe they should just be quiet and keep their beliefs to themselves, because most of us really don't care to hear a point of view that we find offensive.

Do I deny that atheists have the legal right to speak their minds? I do not. But the cost of free speech is living with the consequences of one's words. If atheists exercise their right to express offensive views, then what other sort of reception would they expect to receive?

Seriously. People go on and on about how we are evil and morally bankrupt, but I just don't see it that way. I don't do good deeds for society out of fear of Hell, or desire to go to Heaven. I don't judge a person's morality based on what he or she does or does not worship. I've seen theists ask nontheists what incentives they have to be good to others if we don't worship any particular deity. I once heard this guy at a political conference I went to ask, and I quote, "If there's no G-d, what's stopping you from throwing babies into the street?" To him I say: If the only thing stopping you from throwing babies into the street is fear of divine retribution, please seek counseling.
funny!

Perhaps Christans should do the same then everyone would be happy :)

Well, we can't do that because we are are told to, "http://www.christianforums.com/#_ftn1make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you."http://www.christianforums.com/#_ftn2http://www.christianforums.com/#_ftnref1
http://www.christianforums.com/#_ftnref2The New Jerusalem Bible, Mt 28:18-20 (New York: Doubleday, 1985).

So we will continue preaching the gospel and you can continue telling us how intellectually superior you are.

Seeing as how Christians aren't the most hated group in America, what incentive could you possibly give us to do that?

There's also the fact that we wouldn't care even if we were the most hated group in America. Indeed the Bible says that Christians ideally are hated for preaching the Gospel, so the fact that atheists have us beat in terms of public hatred means that we're doing something wrong.

Ya I know. Christans WISH they were hated and persecuted but they are not so the make stuff up. But I see your day coming quite soon....don't you worry!!:D

I never said I was superior, you must be thinking of someone else. But now that you mention it...:)
Atheists should be able to express their opinions without being "hated" too.

So tell me, why do you christans hate atheists?

Then you must know something that I don't, because I don't see this happening in my lifetime, at least not unless there is a radical shift in our culture. Americans seem to be just as religious today as they were a generation ago, and possibly even more so. I see many more years of atheism-hatred in our country to come. And to be honest, I don't feel all that bad about it. If you say something that others don't like to hear, then don't be surprised when they hate you.

No they shouldn't. Are you saying that people should be able to speak without living with the consequences of what they say? That is highly unreasonable. Words have an effect on people; if this weren't the case, there wouldn't be much of a point in speaking. If atheists want to mouth off, they'd better be prepared to deal with the reprecussions of whatever they say.

So tell me, why do you christans hate atheists?

I don't hate atheists. I just think that they are highly annoying people who should learn to keep their mouths shut.

Reread the thread if you can't remember what some of the other atheists said. You are free to say what you want and we are free to find your opinions annoying.

And like the other atheists, you have an over inflated opinion of yourself if you think anything you say is worth spending the energy to hate.

Atheists are the most distrusted minority in America. (http://www.ur.umn.edu/FMPro?-db=rel...ewsreleases/releasesdetail.html&ID=2816&-Find)

I hope that everyone here agrees that the situation described in the link above is intolerable and unjust. Atheists share the same morals and values as everyone else, because morals and values are not bound to belief in supernatural entities. That's a message that needs to be heard, loudly and repeatedly.

"How do you want yourselfe to be loved while you don't give love and respect to others?"
Those are my words to everyone who talk to others with superiority and to act clever .
The problem is that people don't act their nature. They just pick what they like from here and their and start making their claim.
I really don't want here and there I want the person who is adopting a concept to be logical and clever enough to talk. While ignoring others and being superior won't move my feelings. But Wit and intelligence is what make me proud that I am talking to someone who is respectable and clever. And above all knows what is he talking about.
And It is all depends in the character whether the person is Atheist or not?

This just has to be re-posted for humour.

I can feel the Christian love.

The hate you exude in this thread is quite disturbing, arunma. You claim it's due to the conduct of atheists, but that's just false. The vast majority of atheists in the US keep very quiet about their atheism precisely because of people like you. They know they are irrationally hated and discriminated against and so keep it themselves.

And they do it because of people like you who push hate.

I agree. Evangelical atheists don't really say anything profound. From what I've seen they're just a bunch of whiners who waste our time with their temper tantrums.

Then why are you posting in a thread with a bunch of whiners? Honestly I haven't seen many of those "evil atheists" whining as much as certain others have been. In fact, I'd be so bold to say that they have had really good points.

I post here to tell them that they're whiners, just on the off chance that maybe it'll convince them to stop whining. But if you haven't seen any atheist whining, then you might not have spent enough time on GA. There are generally multiple threads with "daily senseless arguments" against the existence of God.

I spend a good amount of time all over the Discussion and Debate area and honestly haven't seen a whole lot of "atheist whining". Maybe its considered whining to you because you don't like their arguments? Just a thought.
