• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I had a miscarriage 6 weeks ago - I was 9 weeks pregnant. I miscarried naturally, and had ultrasounds done throughout the process to confirm that there was no tissue or anything left in the uterus after the bleeding had stopped. A couple days ago, I took a PT because I have been feeling really tired and nauseous and hadn't had a period since the mc...it was positive. Is there any chance there's just leftover hcg in my system still that is making it a false positive? Or can I count on actually being pregnant again?? I definitely have symptoms, and since the Dr confirmed there was nothing left in the uterus, wouldn't my body have gone back to normal fairly quickly? I am doubting that I'd have enough hcg left in my system after 6 weeks to make a PT positive (especially since I was only 9 weeks, and when I went to the ER on 7/25, they said my levels were down to 5 weeks, and that was within a matter of hours)...but I also don't want to get all excited for nothing. So I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this or has any opinions/advice??

False positives are increadibly rare with modern pregnancy tests.

A positive pregnancy test following a very recent miscarriage where the uterus scanned as empty is a very good reason to head back to either your family doctor or early pregnancy assessment unit/clinic ASAP.

It is possible to become pregnant very soon after a very early miscarriage. Another possibility is twins where one failed and another has implanted. The other more urgent possibility is a hidden ectopic pregancy. If you do experience any one sided pain and especially any shoulder tip pain please head to A&E.

I just went and had blood drawn today, so I'm hoping to find out tomorrow if I'm actually pregnant or not! When I took the tests, the positive line was way darker than the control line, and I read that means there's a very high about of HCG detected...and considering that I couldn't be more than maybe 4-5 weeks at most, a few other people have also said there's a possibility of twins... that would be awesome!!! I haven't had any pain so far, so hopefully it's not ectopic!

Please talk to your doctor with your recent loss, and current positive test and your concerns. That is the best and safest option available.

I'm sure you have lots of anxieties if this is a new pregnancy - at least I would have. I'll be praying for you.

Thank you everyone! I found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant :) I also have very low progesterone levels, so I have started taking a pill every night to keep those up. That may have been part of the reason I miscarried before. I switched to a new Dr who seems way better than the one I was going to before, so I'm hoping things will go better this time. I'm supposed to go in for an ultrasound sometime this week :)

Hoping that this time you have a viable pregnancy.

Take someone supportive with you to your scan. Be aware that the best early ultra-sound scans tend to be done vaginally, they can be a tad disconcerting and not a lot of fun. Vaginal scans are used as they can locate an early prgenancy and check the heartbeat with far greater accuracy than a normal pregnancy ultrasound scan.

Continuing to pray for you.

I see this thread has mostly been filled with female insight but as the Father in two unsuccessful (ectopic) pregnancies I think I empathize with you. And now, like you, I am expecting a child again and this pregnancy seems to be going well but I carry a fear from those lost opportunities. I wish you and the child well.

Thank you everyone. And I'm sorry for your losses, shanethetheologian. It's very tough to go through. And I have a lot of fear too, but the ultrasound looked fine, so I'm hoping thing will be okay this time! Good luck to you and your wife :)
