  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1. Whenever I can remember...

2.(The list is nearly endless.)

"God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for our food. Amen."

Philmont Grace

For food, for raiment,
For life, for opportunity,
For friendship and fellowship,
We thank thee, O Lord. Amen.

Thank you for food, family, and wonderful experiences. Guide our use of these things to Your glory. Amen

At college I was in the habit of praying at every meal, but over the summer I've gotten somewhat lazy and I don't always remember. I'm working on it, though. I just thank God for the meal before me and proceed to pray for a minute or two about whatever is on my mind at the moment. It's not structured; it's not formal. It's just another three short chats in a series strung out throughout the day.

Lutherans pray typically with:

Come Lord Jesus be our Guest, let these gifts to us be blest.

Or "Be present at our table Lord, be here and everywhere adored. And grant that by these gifts we may, strenghtened for thy service be. Amen (Often done in hymn form)

I always try to thank God for my food before I eat. I forget sometimes (ok a lot) . Just a quick thank you is all I really do. My favorite thing in the world is to listen to my kiddos say grace. Before every meal they say "God is great, God is good, Let us thank Him for our food. Amen". They say it in this sing songy kind of way. It's really cute. The things that make us smile. :)

yep....this is the one I always said growing up as well...

and then I stopped praying before I ate because that prayer, to me, was just something I said by memorization and not because I was actually praying it....

but I've started to pray again before meals...I just do my own thing...

i pray before breakfast, lunch & dinner [location is insignificant] in Mackers, at home, school, church, restaurants or any public place :D lol

My prayer is quite short:

Dear Lord,

Thankyou for our lives. Please bless this food.

In Jesus' wonderful name we pray,

amen.

My friend Mickey prays like this:

Dear Lord,

Please bless this food. Bless those who have nothing to eat.

In Jesus wonderful name we pray,

Amen.

We tend to pray over dinner. But since I talk to God a lot during the day, that's really the only meal I feel led to pray at. Simply because it's tradition. heh.

My grandpa has said the same prayer at the dinner table for decades. He's 93.

"Bless us oh Lord, for these Thy gifts which we are about to receive through the bounty of Christ our Lord. Bless our friends and family wherever they may be and thank-you for this time we have together. Amen."

At my family's dinner table here at home we are a bit more informal. We basically say something like this although it varies from day to day:

"Dear Lord, thanks for this day and for bringing us all home safely. Please bless this food and let us enjoy the rest of the day together. Amen"

Oh gosh, thats the same meal time prayer my parents had us say at meals growing up.funny

My meal time prayers tend to be random, and when I think of it.(I know that sounds bad,but it's honest)
I think of it more when I'm with guest or friends.
I think thats because, growing up we prayed before meals as a family and having other people at meal time kind of reminds me of it.

I try to pray before every meal and my prayers are usually not the same. It has some components that are the same such as Thankyou for this food and help it to be good for me and give me the energy that I need. And then I tend to go on a small tangent of what else might be on my mind. Like

If I am with a friend, I thank God for our fellowship.

If I am outside eating alone, I thank him for the weather and I "invite" him to sit with me...

If I am frustrated about something, ditto...

So kind of whatever is on my mind, My meal prayers are generally short.
