I know that the Bible teaches about prayers for those in authority. How come it seems that even some professing Christians don't pray for President Obama and Congress? It also states about prayer for those who lead us that we may peacefully or peaceably in the land. Is it possible for those professing Christians that they love their nation more than they do God or am I wrong in this assessment?

I have noticed from the Old Testament that when a leader followed God and obeyed him, there was more peace in the land. If President Obama was an obedient man of God, would the country be better off or would that not matter? Too many are so busy criticizing our leaders when we should be praying for them that they may gain wisdom in their leadership. It wouldn't also hurt that they themselves as well would ask for wisdom as Solomon did.

1 Timothy 2:2 ( is what I was referring to):
Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.

Forgive me if I have misinterpreted this particular verse.

Great insight sister. Funny, this was actually the subject of the sermon at my church this morning.

Yes, you are correct, we are to pray for those in authority. I myself have often been guilty of not giving honor to those in government, and not praying for them, but rather speaking ill of them. I've repented of this and I pray the Lord would give me grace to not fall into that kind of sin again.

It does grieve me to see those in power trampling on the supreme law of the land and leading us down the road to a police state. Nevertheless, we ought not to be surprised. I've come to see such things as the judgement of God on the people of this country, as we have gone our own way and forgotten God. When virtue disintegrates, tyranny reigns.

Though I disagree vehemently with most of those in government today, I will nevertheless honor them, for the Lord's sake. Let us pray for those in power that they may repent and honor God and the constitution in the days to come.
