My grandfather whom is 90 is in the hospital and dying. He checked in last Tuesday with pneumonia and I drove to Atlanta from Orlando to see him. They found a blood infection (staph) 3 days ago and although he has cleared both, his heart is too weak to produce enough oxygen for him to maintain himself. As of this morning, even being on oxygen is not enough now. He has congestive heart failure. His wish is to be taken off oxygen and be let go. My mother is a mess. We came back from Atlanta yesterday. Long drive. Now, it seems I'll be going back up tomorrow (flying this time).
Here is the bigger problem.
His beliefs are rather based on realism as opposed to being faith based. He does not believe much of what is in the bible because he reads it as a realist (does not believe Jonah and the whale, the burning bush, God coming down in a cloud, burning of Sodom, etc.) He believes religion is to live a good life (never explained to me what he means by that). He does not have a relationship with God to my knowledge but believes in Him. He believes Heaven is floating on a cloud. He does not believe many things God teaches us and everything he does, he does it for his own glory and not that of God's. It scares the family and is the one thing keeping us up at night. Talking to him results in constant push backs.
