I didn't see any prayer threads for the homeless or the poor, so I thought I'd start a thread about them. If you see a homeless/poor person, ask them their name and list it here so we can pray for them. Even homeless and poor people have names.

Lord, I lift up these three individual homeless men I have met in the past few weeks: Otis, Mike, and Ed. Father, I pray that You surround these men with Your angels and protect them from all seasons of weather. I ask that You work in the hearts of Your privileged children to spare their change or food for Your homeless and poor children. Provide them with shelter, water, clothing, and any other manner of thing that they might need. Grant them favor and blessings in the times to come. Amen.

It’s really nice of you to open up a prayer thread for the homeless/poor. My heart goes out to them. Whenever I see a homeless person, I make sure I give him/her something – there have been times where I’ve given them my packed meals, as well. And the joy that follows is unbelievable. I think it’s a great idea to mention their names while praying for them, and I’ll certainly keep this in mind. For now… I said a word of prayer for Otis, Mike, and Ed. God bless you!

Praying in agreement. Lord Jesus, remembering the poor and destitute, the widows and orphans. Praying for a dear friend Carolyn especially. Please help her Lord. Keep her safe and provided for. I believe you have her in the palm of your loving hands. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Heavenly father, thank you for loving us all the same no matter what season or struggle we are in. Lord, may your love shine through us as we reach out to anyone that is homeless. Show us how you want us to be a blessing to them Lord. Use us for your glory. I thank you that all of their needs will be met. I thank you that they will not only have food, clothes, and shelter, but most importantly their spirits will be fed as well. I lift up Otis, Mike, Ed, Carolyn, and all others who are homeless across the globe. Thank you for covering them. Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Thank you for supplying all of their needs. Lord, surround them with people that will lift them up and bring them closer to you. Thank you Lord for your grace and mercy! I thank you for turning each of their lives around, and that their testamonies may be used to encourage others and bring you glory. In Jesus name Amen.

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

There are a few people who regularly panhandle near where I live. Some are known heroin addicts and some are truly homeless. I don't know whether the heroin addicts are homeless or not. The fact that some are addicts keeps folks from giving to those who are homeless. I pray for discernment to know when to give and when to not give. It might be that God even leads us to give to addicts. Who knows, maybe they might get desperate enough to commit suicide if they don't get their fix.

Sorry, I'm not into this stuff. Instead, even while I was surviving on less than $9,000 per year of disability funds, I did manage to get a homeless man off the streets by giving him money for food, clothing, scissors and a mirror to cut his hair, and I gave him some bus tickets so he could get around rather than be stuck in just one place. This eventually led him to being back in touch with his family, the family that let him in now that he looked soooo much better.

I have helped many other homeless folk as well. Nope, just praying for them does not cut it for me.

It would be like praying for my next hamburger that I pick up at the fast food restaurant, rather than actually do something, like pay for it.

I don't think anyone said ONLY Pray.... but here on this virtual site it IS what others can do. If God has us do more, then if others are praying for us, too, we will do it!

I have learned not to judge. IF God specifically tells me not to give to someone, I don't. Otherwise, the default mode is give. What the other person does with this money---GOD'S money---is between him and God.

I'm sure if I were destitute and without God, I would want something, some drug (alcohol, pills) to help me get through the day, to numb reality. I never give money without the Salvation Prayer card I printed up. Other times I would buy fast food and hand it out at the red lights where they would beg.

One guy with a sign about 4 children and waiting on disability has been on and off again regular at the exit of the turnpike. It doesn't matter what the sign says, to me. I remembered him from a few months back, though the sign didn't say he was waiting on disability back then.... I gave him a small amount of cash and the salvation card--again. He was so appreciative and then he goes WAIT! And he grins he says as he pulls a very crumpled salvation card from his pocket---someone gave me one of these a while back!

What else can I say? Eternity is key.

Lord helps us to have discernement, bring these homeless people back home to their families esp those that genuinely want to go home. Please provide shelter for them and the practical means to survive. If we are to be a help to someone we know or have seen in difficulty its only in response to someone eleses prayer.
