  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ireland is a nation with some very deep influences in historicam theology, but currently, as many people know, whether your family is Catholic or Portestant can all too often be a life-or-death situation. Terrorist groups like the Irish Republican Army (IRA) have formed out of the constant conflicts between Catholics and Protestants (also with political factors with England--beside the point of this post, but good to keep in mind), and a Catholic police officer will only help Catholics, as with Protestant officers only helping Protestants.
Most other places in the world, the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants tend to be arguments, and perhaps family feuds. In some of Ireland, it means everything.
I want to open this up to prayers for the Christian v. Christian violence in Ireland to end. Lord, help us to always remember that, no matter how convinced we are that our church is the one true church, our first task as Christians is Love; help us to never let ideologies get in the way of taking care of Your children.
And if any of you know more about this kind of violence in Ireland & elsewhere, please add that in the replies as well.
Blessed are the peacemakers...
