I have been left totally alone for the summer, again. My wife and daughter flew off to Russia for the summer. Grandmother is already there, at her dacha. Depression hits really hard, all the time. I had so been hoping the war would be over. And with Stalinism on the rise I no longer want to go back. But I have nowhere in particular to go. Just holding down the fort here, so we don’t lose the house/apartment. The empty rooms echo in silence.

The latest threat here is from the electric company, who wants the original owner to show up (who is dead) or his wife (who is in Russia) or they will shut off the power at the end of the month. The house agent is going to try to beat them off. We pay. There’s no debt. But someone has a bug up his behind.

There are plenty of other issues. Today is Father’s Day, but it probably won’t occur to any of my kids, who don't particularly follow the American calendar. Right now two are in Russia, two in Germany, anyway.

I did get paid for May and made the rent payment for June, so glorynto God for that! But I’m still looking for another job - can't trust this school, and don’t know if I will be paid for June (which I need to get through the rest of the summer).

I feel trapped at home, because I can’t walk far, have nowhere in particular to go and no one to see here. Soon the main drag will be backed up and going anywhere will be problematic during daylight hours, anyway. I just go to church on Sunday. Went today, but the “coffee hour” was overloaded, no seats available, so I went home.

My little brother and his family are in desperate need of prayers. My little brother is only 2 years older than my son, so my relationship is more like a parent than "just" a sister.

But, short story long, my little brother is in the midst of a full on psychotic break. He got so far out of control that police had to be called, and he is now on a 30 day involuntary admission. When I spoke to him yesterday he was just straight up not connecting with reality at all. I'm really scared for his future.

He thinks a spirit from a house widely reputed to be haunted attached itself to him. To the best of my knowledge, he has only ever been to that house once when he was 12 (he's now 38) and I was with him. We actually went there because I like old houses and to take pictures, not because of it supposedly being haunted. It was very creepy and we did end up running out of it because of something that happened. But, it was 26 years ago. Why's this coming up now? Plus, the story he told me about how the house got haunted is not what I read - there's actually a story about how it got haunted in a local history book. But, my brother told a story about a murder/suicide of an entire family - which makes me worry about what the voices in his head are telling him in regard to his wife and son.

And because of the recent news story about a mentally ill father murdering his 3 daughters, and I used to work for a domestic violence program - I gave advice to my sister-in-law. I told her to get a protective order and file for emergency custody of my nephew. That way my brother can't just go and pick him up at school for instance or from his grandmother's house. When my brother is in his right mind he would never ever hurt his wife or son, but he's not in his right mind. Anyway, my son knows it was me who gave my SIL advice, and we're agreed it would be best of the rest of my family did not know. They would say I'm taking her side. I would say I'm taking my nephew's side since he is the only truly innocent person here. Plus, keeping my SIL and nephew safe - keeps my brother safe.

Anyway, on the whole, I think my SIL has been good to and for my brother, but it looks like she is just DONE. However, I am praying that Humpty Dumpty can be put back together again - for the sake of my nephew. Plus, I'm scared the worry and stress might kill my mom and me. I keep having panic attacks. I know it's gotta be worse for my mom. My brother - besides being the youngest - has always been the family golden child. Like my mom and step-father act like he can do no wrong. Anyway, my family - but especially my brother and his little family - need a lot of prayer right now.

Please keep Frances and Anna in your prayers . They are not related but are known to me and their relatives have asked for prayers for their health issues , which could well be serious .

O Lord, Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who art everywhere present and fillest all things, Treasury of good things, and Giver of life, who desirest not the death of a sinner but their salvation, vouchsafe we beseech Thee to descend upon Thy handmaid Sofia, bringing her every comfort and assurance, and rescuing her from the pit of despair, that the Evil One would have ensnare the youth, and restore her to peace and wellbeing to faith in our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, and aid any physicians, counselors and elders of Thy Church called to assist her; this we pray through the intercession of the Theotokos and all Thy saints, in the name of the same Lord Jesus Christ, who reigneth with Thee, our Comforter and Paraclete, in the unity of the unoriginate Father, ever one God, one Holy, Undivided and Life Giving Trinity, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages, Amen.

Update:
Evidently, the teenager got drunk, said those scary things to my daughter, but fell asleep. My wife called her father, who checked in on her and said she was just sleeping. I don’t know what her family did after that. Hopefully, it was just a passing mood and the family did something. But still, we are worried about our daughters. It is hard when they are in another country that you can't readily get to.

An update for those following my saga: the School finally paid me for the rest of the school year; thanks to the help of kind people and careful scrimping and saving it looks like I will be able to make ends meet at the beginning of the school year in a new school in another city. Glory to God!! for the first time in a very long time, I don’t feel like I’m at the very end of my rope financially. I want to thank people here for their prayers and in a couple of cases, more incarnated help. My bank account in Russia is still under pressure, but there’s nothing you guys can do about that. I have to make payments there for the apartment left behind, and I have to make a few payments because my telephone that is still tied to Russia, and as long as my family is there, they need money and I have to be able to transfer rubles on demand. I’m also going to need to buy one way plane tickets to bring them back.

Our chief worry now at the moment is our younger daughter. My wife brought her to a professional there; it’s pretty clear that she wants to stay there and not come back here. Like me, she has friends there, and nobody here. but the war is still going on, America is still not “a friendly country“, and I don’t have a job there anyway. At my age, with my needs and requirements, I would have to get a good job through people we know, not just any old entry-level teaching job. So my wife is torn. She’s trying to look after her mother and her daughter, and a few of you may remember our crisis in the spring, which we can’t afford to repeat. So prayers still appreciated! We aren’t out of the woods yet. (and there are things I would only say to a trusted priest).
