  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Most of you know that I'm having multiple appointments for various tests on my heart, and I have already requested prayer for that. I have an echo-cardiogram in the morning.

What you don't know is we went about 100 miles from home for a second opinion on some problems my wife was having (i.e. shortness of breath and pain). The doctor sent her to the emergency room immediately and she was admitted in what we were told pretty serious condition. That was last Tuesday at about noon. They have diagnosed her main problem as Lupus and given her some pretty strong medications. We don't know how serious the Lupus is yet, but we're praying that it can be managed and still allow good quality of life. She is much better, but we're told that she has a ways to go before she can be sent home. This is our first time to use a hospital away from home and certainly the first time we've been apart for even a day when either of us were in the hospital. I've been driving back and forth to make my heart appointments and pray that my condition is good enough to care for my wife when they release her. I'll know more about me tomorrow, but my wife is the primary concern right now.

I would certainly appreciate your prayers. My wife and I are both optimistic about things and believe that God worked all of this out for us - regardless of how hard it is to be away from home and temporarily separated from time to time. I'll finish my appointments tomorrow morning and drive back right after I finish the appointment. Thanks in advance for your prayers.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Thank you all sincerely for the prayers. I brought my wife home from the hospital today, and we're both glad to be home. There's still a lot that we don't know yet, but we have an appointment with a specialist on this coming Friday. We do know for positive that it's Lupus, but there are many types of Lupus that attack various areas of the body with differing levels of severity. This type attacked primarily her lungs, and the damage appears to be minor so far - thank God. Regardless, this will be something that must be treated the rest of her life, and we are told that proper treatment will result in high quality of life with just a few side effects from the medications that she will have to take.

We are in the process now of learning what to do and how. As an example, part of it will be diet and exercise. At this point she is still pretty weak and recuperating from massive doses of medications. We're hoping that things get progressively better as the medication is leveled off at a lower dosage. She gets tired very easy right now, so rest is also part of the immediate plan. Eight days in the hospital involved almost constant interruptions of her rest, and she's looking forward to getting a good night of sleep tonight.

Thanks in advance for your continued prayers. We're optimistic right now that she will gain strength after she starts getting good sleep at night.

Bev, who has worked for me more than than three years has diabetes. Her daughter called to tell me she has a bad infection in her foot and the doctor put her on bedrest until she goes back on Tuesday. I'm thinking she could be off work for a good while, at least. Please pray that Bev's foot heal. Not only because she's excellent help, but she's become a friend as well.
