  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Horrible subject, but there is a praise in this. I go to a rather large church, with much emphasis on the youth. We now have a youth pastor (can't believe we went as long as we did without one), and various DCEs and other lay leaders leading certain age groups.

Well, last week, ALL the pastors, and about 2/3 of the staff were at a conference in Florida. The DCE in charge of the middle school was still here, however, and that was a good thing. One of her kids showed up at church last Wednesday afternoon saying that his cousin, a well known girl at the same school he went to, had committed suicide. A lot of our kids go to that school. Soon afterwards, kids and parents were calling her at church, on her cell, and posting on facebook. She quickly went into action and got the Hangar (which is a building next to church where the youth hang out, youth services, etc.) opened the next afternoon for the kids and parents to go to, for a safe place to cry, vent, whatever. She quickly called confirmation small group leaders, other parents, other people working for church who didn't go to the conference, and had them available for the kids and parents. Then she posted something about it on Facebook

The next morning, she went over the school to see if she could help. She was barely in the door and had not even finished introducing herself, when the principal and guidance counselor grabbed her and questioned her about the Hangar. Then she was sent to be a grief counselor. She was saying later that kids that she saw never use emotion or were always angry, were crying and hugging, etc. The school (public school) announced on the intercom, the Hangar as a place for the students and parents to go as a safe place to grieve, ask questions, etc.

She, and the other volunteers were not expecting over 200 kids and parents to show up at the Hangar. One of the people who came and shared Jesus' sharing grace was the little girl's dad. Apparently her parents had known she was contemplating suicide, and tried to get her help.

It was amazing how God worked through her to be there for all those kids and parents, and to do it without a pastor there. The amazing part is that a month ago, she was asked to write an article for a trade magazine with short notice because someone had dropped the ball. She wrote it on suicide in kids. As she researched she had decided to also include a guide for parents and teachers to help them in counseling kids. Copies of that were handed out and every parent had taken one.

Please pray for this little girl's family. Pray for the DCE to finally get some rest - the banquet for the confirmation kids to share their testimonies was also last weekend, while all this was going on, and she was organizing that.

Also in the craziness it was brought to her attention that two other kids (also 13) were contemplating suicide, just pray for those kids and their families.

Urgent prayer request!

I just received a call from my son in Arkansas. His youngest son, Jacob (1 year old), was run over by a car. As of now his vital signs are all good, he's breathing OK, and was crying and trying to pull the straps and lines from himself. He is being airflighted to the children's hospital in Little Rock tonight. No other details are known at this point.

Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Lord, look with favor upon Jacob in his Time of need. Grant skill to the attending team of doctors and nurses, and grant your mercy and love to him and his family. Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen

Update:

They found two skull fractures, but there is no swelling at all. They are beginning to wean him off the medication. So far he seems to be fine. Attributed to God's intervention and his age.
Thanks be to God.

Good seeing you. :)
