Hi, everyone. First, this is not a serious, life-or-death issue at all, but I sure would appreciate your prayer.
I teach online and have a student who began badgering me for an A in the class a week before final grades were due (yesterday), even before I'd read his final paper. He had earned B's all semester in an eight-week course, and he ended up two points away from an A-. Another student, one who was academically dishonest and received zero points for his final paper, ended up three points away from a D- because he had cheated (but to his credit he did admit to and apologize for the act). So I decided it would not be fair to move one student up to the next grade level if I didn't move the other student up, too. Sometimes, teaching gets like this.
Anyway, the B+ student has been threatening to appeal his grade for a week if he didn't receive an A, and now I believe he is going to do just that. Now, for me, it's not so much the grade but the principle of it--the fact that he has been so rude in his emails--that is bothering me.
Should I just let him "have" the A- to appease him? Then, what about all the other teachers he might bully?
I really hate situations like this. I'm a fair and even slightly lenient teacher, by the way.
Thanks for your prayers--and, again, this is not a serious matter in the scheme of things, but some support sure is great.
By the way, my administration is supportive, and I've never met this student in person.
