Because I have vacationed on the Gulf Coast in past years and experienced its awesome and wonderful natural beauty, I am committed to praying for a solution to the ongoing oil spew which is causing contaminated water, beaches, destruction of biomes and habitats of sea life, and disruption and destruction of the lives of those who live in the states whose coastal industries provide income from hospitality, recreation, and sea food distribution.

For this reason I have decided to begin intercessory prayer for the Gulf of Mexico, asking Almighty God to provide solutions to stop the spew; reclaim the water, biomes and habitats of the sea life; and righteously provide restoration in the lives of those affected by the devastation resulting from the Deepwater Horizon explosion.

On Sunday I will begin praying, and will continue through the week for one hour each day. Please consider joining with me in this intercessory prayer.

You can book time in joined intercessory prayer here: http://www.24-7prayer.com/signup/168225. This is the Spirit Compass Prayer Room of Intercession for the Gulf of Mexico catastrophe.

Folks currently are questioning if God is so good, then why did He cause, or why did He allow the Deepwater Disaster to occur, killing 11 innocent men, and putting the entire eco system of the Gulf of Mexico into a catastrophic decline. And it’s not only the ecosystem but the future health and livelihoods of the Gulf’s inhabitants and possibly those of the entire southern parts of the USA. – Not to mention innocent people elsewhere, which the deadly toxins might affect, as is being postulated currently.

Father El Elyon you are worthy to receive honor and glory and blessing.
You created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them.

Heal my heart. Heal the water and people of the Gulf of Mexico affected by this catastrophe.

Jesus is Lord of life. We pray that the Spirit Jesus sent us from your eternal throne would create solutions and heal the waters.

Since my 24-7 prayer room was scheduled for one week only, it has expired. Today I re-opened the prayer room and will continue it through the end of hurricane season. http://www.24-7prayer.com/signup/156c1e. Today is the 72nd day of the oil spew and contamination. The cap was taken off the damaged pipe head because of back pressure and the fear of lateral dispersement effect. The oil flow has not been reduced. More resources have been brought in to capture the oil.

BP has information ads on the Weather Channel promising to help those whose lives have been affected, and stating it is speinding $1 million a day for containment and reclamation. They are also pledging to stay in the Gulf until the catastrophe has been brought under control.

Hurricane Alex is heading to South Padre Island, TX, and a voluntary evacuation notice has been given to those vacationing and living near the beaches. The effect of exisitng oil bubbles and flow is being assessed to give the residents some awareness of the possiblity of the oil contamination that may result from the wave force of the hurricane.

NOAA Ship Delaware II to Collect Tunas, Swordfish, Water Samples on Deepwater Horizon Spill Study

NOAA vessels also focus on reef fish, shrimp, marine mammals and the loop current

June 25, 2010
NOAA ship Delaware II departs Key West, Fla., today to collect tunas, swordfish and sharks, to gather data about the conditions these highly migratory species are experiencing in waters around the Gulf of Mexico spill site.

During the two-week mission, the research vessel will use longline fishing gear to capture the fish, and assess their environment using sophisticated water chemistry monitoring instruments. Researchers will only retain the fish needed to get enough samples for the study. Every effort is made to release any animals caught but not needed for sampling. Some may also be fitted with satellite tags to help determine how much time these highly migratory animals spend in oiled and unoiled waters.
These fish, and other prized Gulf seafood species, are the focus of NOAA’s response mission to help assess the safety of seafood for consumers, and to lay the groundwork for measuring the long-term effects of the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil spill on commercially important fish and shellfish.
Two other NOAA ships, Pisces, one of NOAA’s newest research vessels, and the ship Oregon II, are in the midst of surveys of reef fish, bottom-dwelling fish, and shrimp in the eastern and western Gulf of Mexico to sample for seafood and water quality and species abundance as part of the oil spill response.
“These vessels are providing a variety of seafood and water samples from locations throughout the Gulf—nearshore and offshore, shallow water and deep, oiled and unoiled,” said Dr. Steven Murawski, who is leading NOAA’s science response to the spill. “This is baseline information we need to measure any effects on seafood attributable to the spilled oil and to make sure our fishery closures are effective and in place for as long as they need to be, but no longer.”
The seafood samples will be analyzed by scientists in NOAA labs in Pascagoula, Miss., and Seattle for levels of oil and dispersants and to document the movements of fish from oiled to unoiled waters, to compare against guidelines for re-opening fishery closure areas, and to provide baseline information so that changes in the ecosystem owing to spilled oil can be measured

On day 87 of the oil spew the pipeline has been capped and the spew has been stopped.

Praise to our eternal Father of Light, El Elyon!:clap::clap:

Between 118 and 203 million gallons of raw petroleum have contaminated the Gulf of Mexico .

Lisa P. Jackson, Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, reported to Congress today:

Following the April 20, 2010 Deepwater Horizon mobile offshore drilling unit explosion and resulting oil spill, the USCG, in consultation with EPA, DOI, NOAA, and the State of Louisiana, granted BP authorization to use approved dispersant on oil on the surface of the water in an effort to mitigate the shoreline impacts of the oil on fisheries, nurseries, wetlands and other sensitive environments. Dispersants contain a mixture of chemicals, that, when applied directly to the spilled oil, can break down the oil into smaller drops that can sink below the water’s surface. Dispersed oil forms a "plume" or "cloud" of oil droplets below the water surface, and mixes vertically and horizontally into the water column, and is ideally rapidly diluted. Bacteria and other microscopic organisms are then able to act more quickly than they otherwise would to degrade the oil within the droplets.

The application of dispersant is part of a broader environmental triage approach to minimize the known threat to the environment to the greatest extent possible. The spill management strategies, practices, and technologies currently being implemented include mechanical removal techniques (use of sorbents, booming and skimming operations), in-situ burning, and lastly dispersants. There are environmental tradeoffs and uncertainties associated with the widespread use of large quantities of dispersants. We know dispersants are generally less toxic than the oils they break down. We know that surface use of dispersants decreases the environmental risks to shorelines and organisms at the surface and when used this way, dispersants break down over several days to weeks. In addition, the use of dispersants at the source of the leak represents a novel approach to addressing the significant environmental threat posed by the spill. Results to date indicate that subsea use of the dispersant is effective at reducing the amount of oil reaching the surface, and can do so by using less dispersant than is needed to disperse oil after it reaches the surface, and has resulted in significant reductions in the overall quantity of dispersants being used to minimize impacts in the deepsea.

On May 10, 2010, EPA and USCG issued a Directive requiring BP to implement a monitoring and assessment plan for both subsurface and surface applications of dispersants as part of the BP oil spill response. Additionally, on May 26, 2010, EPA and USCG directed BP to significantly decrease the overall volume of dispersant used and to cease use of dispersant on the surface of the water altogether unless conditions on the ground limited the use of other mechanical means. Since that directive, we have seen the total volume of dispersants used fall by almost 70% from their peak levels.

A Message From EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson

Dear Friends,

While last week we received some encouraging news, our relief efforts continue. I ended last week with my seventh trip to the Gulf since the spill began. While there, I met with environmentalists, community and business leaders and scientists to ensure we’re taking every step possible to protect the Gulf and preserve this area for future generations.

Last Thursday I testified in front of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies to address the use of dispersants in the Gulf. We are continuing to monitor the use of dispersants, and will perform all necessary follow-up testing to evaluate the long-term effects of both the oil and the dispersants. Watch the hearing here.

Thank you for your continued interest in EPA’s response in the Gulf.

Situation Update

Gulf Oil Spill Devastating for Sea Turtles
"For the moment, the gushing oil has stopped but this oil spill will have long-lasting impacts on sea turtles and the Gulf of Mexico marine ecosystem" said Jacqueline Savitz, senior campaign director at Oceana. Turtles can come in contact with oil when they surface to breathe, by eating contaminated prey, and on soiled beaches. Turtles are vitally important to keeping marine ecosystems in balance, so by devastating turtles, the oil spill is wrecking havoc throughout the Gulf of Mexico.
