Please forgive me. I wrote a report about the surgery but evidently, I didn't post it. My humble thanks for your prayers.
A few days after his 80th birthday, My brother was taken to the ER with chest pains and an irregular heartbeat. They medicated him to restore the heart's sinus rhythm and kept him overnight to run tests.
The next day the tests continued, and when they imaged his heart arteries, the results alarmed the surgeons who immediately moved him into surgery. On top of everything else, his wife took another fall in the hospital parking lot, giving herself a black eye. This was after getting lost on the way there. So now, neither of them can remain unattended.
The artery that supplies the right side and the bottom of my brother's heart was nearly completely blocked, perhaps 95-90%. So the left artery has started to grow branches to supply the right side. However, they are inadequate to the task. Another culprit is called Atrial Fibrillation that has developed, I presume as a side effect of the diminished blood supply and the waste products generated by the atrophying muscle tissue. That is what was making the heart muscle attempt to seize or to go into arrest.
However, the surgeons were unable to pierce to blockage and install a stint. The procedure failed. Evidently, the blockage had calcified. So another med was added to the mix to help soften the blockage and my brother was sent home to rest and recover for a week. At that time, a second attempt will be made to pierce the blockage, install a stint and restore normal blood flow.
This week will be difficult.
Again, thank you all for your prayers and well wishes.
