Does anyone from the LCMS have or know of anyone from the LCMS to have and use those olive wood prayer crosses from the Holy Land? They’re used for prayer, comfort and supposed to be a good stress reliever. Or is that a Catholic thing?

Also, pre war, did anyone from the LCMS visit the Holy Land or is that a Catholic thing?

Comfort Crosses are Christian, not exclusively Catholic.
I see that they sell them on Amazon, and I found this interesting article on their history ...

I ordered one from Amazon this afternoon. Thanks for the article. It was interesting. I had no idea about the story behind these crosses. I think my friends mom held onto one when she was in hospice.

Yes, the background story is beautiful.
:rose:

I've wanted one for some time now.
I may go ahead and order one, too!

I never gave them any thought until I saw one on Facebook today. Then I just really wanted one.

We went to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows last night and I saw a fancier prayer cross in their gift shop. I didn’t look around the store too much because I was already about to spend too much money there but I’d bet they have plain ones too.
Have you ever heard of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows? It’s in Belleville Illinois and it’s so peaceful there.

I need to cut down on all my Amazon ordering.
I've been doing it alot lately ...
and with Prime, the orders come so fast ... and FREE!

I've started trying to make a list and consolidate my orders more often.
So when the orders come, they are sometimes a big pile ...
but at least the poor delivery man isn't here every other day!
^_^

I have 5 furbabies now ... recently took in a kitten off the street.
Thought I was going to 'trap and release' her back outside after spaying ...
but just couldn't bring myself to toss her back out there when done ... So now I have 5!

ALOT of my ordering is stuff like pet food and supplies in large quantities, etc.
It's just so much easier than running out to the store all the time ...
and alittle bit cheaper, too!

It's like a worry stone?
Not really because a worry stone is more New Agey and a prayer cross is to remind us of Christ. I have a Mammogram scheduled next month and possibly an ultrasound and am thinking of taking my prayer cross with me to hold onto and pray with. It will remind me of the presence of Jesus

My mother gave me one for my last birthday. She’s Catholic and they had a lot of olive wood carvings for displayed for sale at the church she attends.
My former Catholic Church (which could be again….jury‘s out….Lutheran, Catholic, subject to change) has lots of things like that displayed for sale from time to time, too.

From what I gathered this church has an affiliation with a group in Israel who aquires the wood, craves the pieces and ships them out. When purchased at the church the Father of the parish then blesses them.
