Which prayer book do you use, or do you use multiple?

I've been using the Ancient Faith Prayer Book. I've begun to use the Jordanville Prayer Book too.

They both have pros and cons.

Ancient Faith Pros:
Not too long and offers prayers for circumstances and occasions.

Ancient Faith Cons:
Lacking in prayers petitioning the Theotokos and Saints.

Jordanville Pros:
Is very full and feels largely complete.

Jordanville Cons:
Lacking in prayers for circumstances and occasions.

I don't have any book that's just prayers, but a book I have that involves daily prayers is "Lent with Pope Francis". It has a passage from Scripture, part of one of Pope Francis' homilies, reflection questions, and a prayer, for every day of Lent. It's proven to be a very nice boost in my spiritual life, despite taking, at most, 2 minutes per day.

I have the Ancient Faith Prayer Book in my prayer corner for every day use. I also carry the little Antiochian pocket prayer book.

When I was Chrismated my sponsor gave me a prayer book called A Manual Of Eastern Orthodox Prayers (link). It started fraying around the edges so I quit carrying it but it holds a special sentimental spot (my sponsor passed away about 6 months after my Chrismation).

I use the Liturgy of the Hours. On days I'm on the run I use the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Lately I have been reading a guide to spiritual warfare which has a littany of prayers in the back.

I know all of these are Catholic. As well, as you know, I am Catholic lol. I am personally enamored with prayer. My wife doesn't even ask me anymore where I got a new book lol.

I have always wondered if the Orthodox had something similar to the LOH. I am not adverse to praying some Orthodox prayers :). I am partial to the Jesus Prayer.

I have the canonical Old Rite prayer book, lots of good stuff in there.

Father, what would be a good book for an Orthodox noob to like myself to try?

My preferred prayer book is the Old Orthodox book from the Erie Church of the Nativity Parish. I've used that for some years [ yes as an Eastern Catholic ;)], I also have the Jordanville one which I use at night for 'Prayers before sleep ' as suggested by my priest .

I have several, including the Old Believers' mentioned above, the Antiochian, The Hours of Prayer put out by ACROD, and one put together by Abp. DMITRI of blessed memory, and Jordanville. The last two are the ones I use the most, but they all have their plusses (is that a word? :) ).

Bouncing off of this -- I'm a big fan of phone apps, easier to carry around everywhere I go, gives me something better to do than fb when I'm scrolling through my phone, etc. Do any of you have a specific iPhone Orthodox prayer app that you prefer? I know there are several but I don't know which is "best"

Can you tell more about the one put together by Archbishop Dmitri? Is it still available?

I’ve also been looking for his translation of the Divine Liturgy as well.

Which one do you have?
The one I have only has the readings and the commemorated Saints of the day.

The Antiochian "little red prayer book" is available as an app.
I have it and use it from time to time. The prayers are organized alphabetically by default.
Which is good if you want to pull up a specific one, but makes moving from one to the next in order a bit cumbersome.

I’ve also been looking for his translation of the Divine Liturgy as well.

It's called The Hours of Prayer, and it was put out as a spiral bound booklet by the Cathedral in Dallas. I got it from a friend. I'll see if it's still available.

I use Daily Readings for the readings, and Pray Always for a prayer app.

There are small things I would change about both of them, but they are sufficient.

I've also started reading The Prologue of Ohrid, but that is through a Church that posts it daily. They are on a different calendar than me, and sometimes I am late and they change the day before I can read it. So ... I wish for something more user-friendly, but it's very good.

I spent most of my youth and early adult years using the Antiochian prayer book. It served me well for a long time. I will say, though, that if you intend to graduate to something more complete like the Jordanville Prayer Book, you might want to start with that and just do selected prayers. Because I have many of the prayers memorized, or at least greatly familiar, I now have competing versions of so many prayers in my head which can drive me crazy at times. But most important is to use whatever you have.
