  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What does "pray without ceasing" mean to you?

Just heard a challenging sermon about this passage and wanted to find out what others think about this.

1) I think it means exactly what it says.

2) It's something that Paul said, and Messiah never indicated that a super apostle would trump His teachings after He left.

3) Messiah said the opposite - not to be like the pagans who think they will be heard for their many words - but to say the Lord's prayer with the confidence that God knows what we need before we ask.

Disagree alittle. When Jesus was talking about people praying with many words He was also talking about people that liked to be "seen" praying. IOW their heart was in "look how spiritual I am" which is different that pouring your heart out because you really need direction or the Lord's help. So it's not about rambling on and on, or reciting certain "prayers" as a list.
He wants a conversation with us. And when we have an issue, our first thought should be to pray about it and ask God. Oftentimes it is not.

Also what is often referred to as "the Lord's prayer" was a model for us. It should be called the diciples prayer. The true Lord's prayer is in John 17. Not something we should recite IMO. It included all the aspects that we should include in our prayers, asking for forgiveness, praying His will be done, forgiving our enemies, taking care of our needs, protect us from evil, etc...It was in response to the request to "teach how we ought to pray"

Theodore and others.

I wish to further talk to you about meditation and such things in relation to Christianity. In order to not take this thread too far off topic I have started a new thread in the world religions section of the forum called "Gods grace and responsibility".

I would be grateful if you would respond to this thread also. Thanks.

I always kind of thought of it as praying through out the day..not constantly every single second, but like...when your on your way to work or school..or when you wake up or having lunch or waiting for someone..I dunno.

I used to do all my praying at night but I'm trying to pray throughout the day..and at night too. Nowadays I really don't think I talk to God as much as I should.
