Hi, I would say that the very first place to begin is with the Lord. Open your heart to Him and tell Him what you just wrote to us. He already knows everything, but He wants you to be open and sharing with Him. If you desire a closer relationship with Him,tell Him that you are seeking that, and ask Him to lead you. Spend time every day reading His word, that is our spiritual food and how we get to know Him. Also spend time in prayer, just talk to Him telling Him what is on your heart.Don't forget to also give some quiet time in meditation of Him,so He can get a word in edgewise, to speak to us,LOL!
Think on everything He has done for you and in your life, and for others, and praise Him. it always seems to help to just think on all He has already done for us and continues to due for us. It would probably bless you to go to the testimonies threads on this site and read them, read some Psalms,a book like The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, how He was with her and her sister in the concentration camps in Germany. Also "God's Smuggler " by Brother Andrew and his time working for the Lord smuggling bibles behind the iron curtain, full of awesome accounts of how God can work miracles. Both of these books cannot fail to make your heart open to God's prescence. Listen to praise and worship songs for the message in them. Things like this all help,to know and Love Him.Ask Him to strengthen your thirst for His word and deepen your love, and to show you anything you need to change or get out of your life,so as to be in obedience to Him. This is something we all must continue to do.
Believe me,He is thrilled when we seek closer fellowship with him,and remember we grow stronger in our spiritual walk as time goes on. Just as we must cultivate a relationship with people in our life,we also must cultivate our relationship with the Lord,it takes effort or it grows stagnant and cold, meaningless. The more your love for Him grows, the more your obedience grows, and you must also ask for His strength. God Bless Your Journey Towards Him.
