  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

We never carried the seat with us to visit or anything and they were fine. Just teach them how to lean forward to balance themselves. We've never had drama at public toilets, either...at least not over the seat.

LOL, my oldest (now 6) was traumatized when she was about 3 by one of those toilets that flushes automatically. Poor child, we were at a rest stop in Kansas in the middle of the night and the thing went off while she was in the middle of her tinkle. She jumped and screamed and was convinced that the toilet was ready to eat her. She's still not quite over that one. :help: Now, I have to cover up the sensor with my hand before she'll even consent to sit on one of those. ;)

I can't get my son to sit on a big toilet seat at all. I can't even get him to sit on the little ones at preschool. Fortunately we have been able to convince him to go standing up at preschool, and anywhere there is a stool (he's pretty short for his age), and have also been able to get him to stand up outside. Our current offer is a little skateboard if he will wee on the preschool toilet. It's just been going on far too long to not go for a substantial reward. I think once we have that one, we may have a bit more hope for larger toilets.

For those with boys there is a great product called a weeman which attaches to the toilet and can be tipped up to empty. It basically hangs over the edge and means they can wee standing up without a stool. Then you tip it up to empty and flush and it gets cleaned that way. I think you go to weeman.com.au You can get it here or in the US I think - although I imagine they would send it elsewhere too.

Hey Andiesmama,

I guess you have already started, but I was wondering if you came across this webpage?:
www.pottytrainingsolutions.com

I found it when I was reading the reviews to Potty Training in Less than a Day, and someone mentioned that many of the principles of the book are found on the website. I just thought it might be able to offer some helpful pointers.

Another thing, it is REALLY hard for those little hineys to balance on a big toilet, and that is a major reason some kids are afraid to sit. Turn the kid around so that he/she is facing the back of the toilet. That gives him/her something to hold on and they can concentrate on business, not worrying about falling in!

or buy those cushion seats....it fits perfectly for my kid :)

Update....

Going well! (*yay!*) We started last Friday, had a few accidents in the morning, but I realized I was trying to go for too long inbetween. So I cut it down to every 20 minutes, so she could get the "feel" for it...and have been accident-free (except once) since Friday afternoon! (knock on wood, cross fingers, etc. lol)

We do pull-ups for afternoon naps, but I still do diapers at night....altho we're up to about an hour now holding it during the day, I want to get her a little bit further along before I switch to pull-ups at night.

And the big potty was a great idea! She thinks it's "cool" to go on the big potty like mommy does...I put her little removable potty seat on there, get her little step-stool, and she marches up there like a big girl.

So...thanks for all the tips and prayers...I think we're well on our way, and you guys have been a source of great encouragement & inspiration for me! (*hugs*)
