  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is my first child so I have never potty trained a child..but I did find some cool links on potty training kits that you might want to order to help you out..I have been ordering them so when that time comes I have a few aides to help me since I will be a first timer...here are the links:

www.pampers.com -They will send you coupons and potty training kit for free for the kandoo product line..got it last month and the kit was pretty cool with a certificate and stickers, door hanger...coloring book...sure to motivate her...you have to sign up for the site itself...they will just send it to you...though you might could contact customer service about it.

http://www.samples.aohosting.net/campaign/Charmin_PTK -This is from charmin and free I have applied for it twice and still havent received one..so not sure what is in the pack or how long it takes to get one.

http://www.pottytrainingconcepts.co...&OVKEY=free kit potty training&OVMTC=standard
- This site is about potty training itself...and has a dr. phil link on it...you can also print off potty training certificates.

Those were a few of the best links I saw...try searching yahoo for free potty training kits...they had a few more links that popped up when I searched...I hope this helps:)

About a month ago my daughter told me that she was going to the go poop in the potty. I was so excited. She went in, closed the door, and about 5 minutes later, she was yelling for me to come in. She was grinning from ear to ear as she exclaimed that she had just gone poop in the potty. Actually she had gone poop in her diaper while sitting on the potty. I think I should have clarified what it means to go poop in the potty!!:)

Andie's 3rd birthday is the end of June, and she's about 90% potty-trained...I guess I got rid of the diapers about 6 weeks ago...

I just bit the bullet & ditched the diapers, totally! We went out & bought "big girl" panties, she picked them out. Also I was going to use some type of candy for her reward (she got her mommy's sweet tooth!:sorry: ), so she picked out some special candy (Hershey kisses, I think) & a pretty jar for them. I set the prominently on the counter in the bathroom in plain sight.

Then one Saturday morning when she woke up, I put on her panties & didn't look back! (had pull-ups for nap & night time) I tried a 30 minute interval but it was too long, she kept having accidents, so I set the timer for 20 minutes & took her every 20 min on the dot...so she would have success at it, not accidents all the time at the beginning. I wanted her to feel proud of herself for doing it on the potty, then hopefully she wouldn't feel so bad if she had an accident.

Every day I'd move it up by 5 or 10 minutes, and after about a week, she was telling me when she had to go potty!! Now she only wears pull-ups at night, even during her nap she just wears her panties & stays dry.

Every now & then she forgets & will go a little bit in her panties, then stops herself & comes running to me so we can go on the potty. But 9 times out of 10 she lets me know when she has to go, and I also keep an eye on the clock so if it's been a couple hours, I'll have her try to go anyways.

Good luck! We just made it like a huge party, her auntie promised her this one toy that Andie was dying to have if she went potty like a big girl, anything like that you could use as a reward to tempt them...if candy doesn't work, stickers, little "prizes" that you can find at a dollar store or party store (put them in a pretty box & let her pick one each time she goes)...

Oh, I also had a "FUN BAG" that we could use ONLY when she was on the potty...bubbles, new books, a new doll, that kind of stuff...

You may just have to run out of diapers. That's what we did, though I think I might have given them a heads-up that we were on the last bag of diapers, so it wasn't a shock.

So that, and also have them be responsible to clean up their own accidents. You don't have to make her feel ashamed or punish her. Just show her where the paper towels are, have her place her wet pants in the appropriate place. If she needs to clean herself up she should have a quick bath or hose-down, shower, whatever.

Be calm and in control of your frustrations should you experience them:D

Some small treats, whatever she loves best, can be used as rewards for successes. But be sure you use encouraging words as well as rewards.

I would agree with this.

With our son, just before he was 3, it was summer here, so it was easier, I just let him run around in cloth training pants and a t-shirt or singlet.

When he made a mess on the floor, I would show him how to help mummy clean it up, I would give him a rag to clean with, just like mine (not that he was able to do it by himself at all anyway, not properly)

I think it took about 2 weeks before we began to see some real progress.

That is not bribery. Bribery is when you give the item and then expect performance or compliance or whatever. The bag is a reward. Rewarding children is good - bribing them is bad. Bribery does not change behavior - rewarding does.

There is a book about potty training in one day - which is meant to be great if you are the type of person who could go through that. From my understanding you spend the entire day talking about going to the toilet. You give them heaps and heaps of drinks to give them lots of opportunities to go, and use a 'wetting' doll to help them with the idea. You remove any distractions - like other children, and anytime during the day that they stray to something else you bring them back to talking about potty training. Pretty full on, but it's meant to work really well - less than a day with older children like you.

I had a fairly young baby when potty training, so this was not really an option.

We have just moved to undies at night (he turned 3 in Feb). We used sticker rewards which worked well. For nights we eventually went to pull ups, which worked really well - he was really motivated to keep Buzz dry - and to keep the planets from disappearing. They are expensive though - we generally held onto them until they actually got wet or threatened to fall apart!

Good luck

Erin

My son will be three in a month and still uses his diaper when he needs to go and he isn't reminded to go to the potty. But he has pooped in the potty for two days straight, so I am hopeful.

I teach pre-schoolers and have dealt with many kids who aer three and a half or four and are still having trouble. In my experience, some kids don't seem to get it, then the parents get worried or frustrated, but then one day BAM! the kid starts using the potty every time.

Sarah is 27 months and refuses to potty. At 18 months she poth peed and pooped in the potty a couple of times but now she is afraid. She has always had bad rash problems even while 100% bf but we couldn't find the problem well on October(shortly after complete weaning) it got worse and her little bottom would bleed. There went the potty learning. After multiple visits to hte doctor and $86 of meds a month she still had a severe rash but no bleeding so in disperation I switched to cloth and the rash was gone in 2 days but she is still afraid of the potty and if we read books or see videos about it she even gets upset when me or dh is on the potty so I've decided to chill for a while. Our church has a 2yo(k2)-12th grade school and she has to be trained to go into k3 next August so I'm going to wait until after baby #2 gets here in October and try again.
