  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am embarking on the whole potty trainging experience with my son, but this is turning out SOOOOO differently than with his older sister. Does anyone have any tips or advice about how to hadnle some male related potty trainig issues, like how to make him leave his "business" alone when he sits on the potty. He won't leave it alone! sometimes giving him a toy or book keeps his hands busy, but he won't go then because he is distracted. Also I don't think he cares that his underwear are wet when he has accidents--I refuse to use pull ups-too expensive and diaper-like--I would appreciate any advice, suggestions, or ideas that might help.

Thanks

And if by business, you mean penis, short of tying his hands behind his back (which I am NOT) recommending, I don't think you will. Curiosity is normal. This is a whole new experience for him. I can remember being about 7 or 8 and getting out a hand mirror because I wanted to know how things worked! there was nothing sexual about it. I wanted to know how my body functioned, and where did these fluids come from! With boys, it is more out there, so to speak, but there is still curiosities about sensations and workings that is normal and should be explained.

My daughter obviously doesn't have the same kind of parts to mess with, but she was real fidgety. I would sit on the side of the tub, across from the toilet, and hold her at her waist. She would either have to hold onto my arms, or hold her dress up out of the way. It gave her some way to have her hands occupied, but not really distracted. Plus, I was there to make sure that she didn't fall in.....again. lol

I just started doing the potty training thing with my son. He really isn't ready, but he is interested. Right now he sits on his little potty chair, points his winkie down, holds the pose, and gets up saying "all done". One of these days, something will actually come out. ;)

My co-worker potty trained her daughter and stepson by letting them run around without any diaper on. Then she had their little potty put in the family room or whatever so it was clearly visible. This might have worked for her, but if I did that, I would have little puppy puddles all over the place.

Boys do tend to take longer than girls to train. Have him press his winkie down so that he doesn't get "pee-pee" everywhere. Then he can touch it, but he has a job to do. Also I suggest having him try to stand and pee, the he can hold it and aim it. Just make sure you don't have a heavy toilet seat (those cause very bad bruising for little guys if they fall down while the little one is going potty).

I put raisins in the toliet to aim at.
Also, I think when they are totally ready, it will just happen.
We put out a potty seat for him to use when he wanted. I also bought him big boy undies when he asked and we talked about what it meant to wear them.
I wouldn't push it. When he's ready he will go on the toliet.
If they aren't ready, it could make it take longer.
Also, get used to him playing with his penis, it just gets worse. (haha)

Boys do take longer. We're finally making progress with our recently turned 3 year old. He's shown signs of being ready for 6+ months and has incredible bladder control. It's just taken longer for him to figure it out.

Lots of good suggestions here, and I agree boys take longer than girls. Encourage him to point it down. If he doesn't and sprays the room (oopsie!) he should have to clean up his own mess. Be kind and calm about it. Show him where the towels are and show him where to put the wet towels. That's the consequense for fiddling around I guess:)

Let him play with it, he really won't go blind
I'm sorry this made me laugh My son will call anyone out on this one. If he see's anyone of the male gender scratch or pull or whatever, he will walk up to them and whisper " if you play with that( he'll point) you'll go blind then it will fall off" :D That I give a BIG thanks to his pappy.

My son is a loves to be outside, and the only thing that worked for me with him was to let me pee outside. He was always so busy he didn't want to come inside. So I said what the hey..... Let's be getto for awhile. I have this hanging plant by my porch and he loved to water that. It took only a week and he was good to go. Now he comes in, we had to explain that girls didn'[t did to see his winkie since he has gotten to be a big boy. Now #2 is a differet story. Can't let him do that outside-----Shoosh fly!!! Anyways that was the hard part. He was always to busy, so I pulled him in every hour and sat him on the potty. He had books and toys and we sang and talked. it took alot longer, but it finally worked. Just my 2 cents!
