Darth Bagel, I love your desktop picture and your user name. :)

And wow, your dock is way less cluttered than mine. How do you have it so that your user name isn't in the top right hand corner of your menubar? I want to remove mine but I don't know how. I almost cropped my picture because it reveals my name, but kept it since it's just my nickname anyway.

How's the stability? ;)

For a branch known as "unstable" it is remarkably stable. With any rapidly changing system such as Debian Sid (or Arch) there could be issues but personally I have more issues with Windows 8.x than i do with Sid.

It's good to see so many linux/unix users here. Hopefully, no one is using the "GUI" to get real work done.

GUI's can be quite productive and lets face it, this thread would not be of much interest if we all used the console :)

Try doing non-linear editing without a GUI. Go on, I dare you.

Not that it can't be done, of course (as with AviSynth), but it would be an exercise in masochism. The pre- and post- work can usually be done faster by scripting, but the main part of the process, not so much.

This is my Windows 8 computer. I have Ubuntu for programming and stuff. I only use Windows for gaming and personal stuff. I also blurred out my personal stuff. Like my address and stuff.

I agree, for "development tasks" (word processing, coding, video/audio processing) and web browsing, you really need a GUI interface. Some tasks like database management, it is actually faster with a terminal.

Other than the development tasks, terminal is just way faster (once you write script to normalize things).

For those of you using Apple computers, what are your thoughts on Yosemite both in regards to aesthetics and functions? So far, so fantastic for me! :D

Oh, explanation about my desktop image. It's our hands shaped like a heart around an iconic tower at the college I'm hoping to attend. I'm a sentimental goof.
