  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Indeed. That would definitely place the Reformers among the greatest teachers in the Church.
With the exception of Luther, I can't think of any Reformers that had apostolic succession.

You ought to learn more about the Reformers. Although some came close to being ordained following higher education in Catholic seminaries and universities and did not, many were ordained when they left the Catholic Church.

Menno Simons was ordained as a Catholic priest - Menno Simons - Wikipedia

Huldrych Zwingli was an ordained priest in Switzerland - Huldrych Zwingli - Wikipedia

Jan Hus was also ordained as a Catholic priest - Huldrych Zwingli - Wikipedia

Thank you for the info on Zwingli! I've never heard of Simons. I though Hus was before Luther.

I'm sure you realize that the great Heretics are exceptions to the rule. Arius was a priest as well.

Yes, Hus was prior to Luther and rarely receives the credit he deserves in paving the way for the Reformation.

The problem here is that theological training and ordination by a man having apostolic succession is absolutely no guarantee of a qualified teacher or church leader.

Theological training and ordination are a must. A man without these does not have apostolic succession.
