It was about midnight. My parents were away on vacation. My 2 year old son was sleeping quietly in our bedroom. I was in the spare room, chatting with friends on the computer. All was peaceful and quiet.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Suspicious, I crept over and eased it open. A young man stood there. It took a moment to realize it was our neighbor's son, Chris. He was standing in...his boxers.

"Vicky, let me in...call 911...there's two guys robbing our house...they have guns..."

I let him in, locked the door, and ran for the phone, quickly dialing. He stood there shivering in his underwear, looking around frantically. I began to give the details to the operator, when I heard the most horrible screaming outside. It was a scream of absolute terror, a true bloody-murder scream...I froze.

"It's my mom!" Chris said.

I ran back to the door, terrified that the gunmen would be right behind her, get into my house, shoot us all, shoot my baby...

It was a Wednesday morning...

I was by myself driving to see a lung specialist about 2 hours away. FINALLY! A solution was in reach. I was going to get started on the medicine that would bring my year long illness to an end.

I arrived at the hospital, met the doctor and we reviewed my test results and then WHAM! My world turned upside down. It wasn't what my doctors had thought...

I had a T-E-R-M-I-N-A-L lung disease and had approximately a year to live.

Through the fog in my brain I heard the doctor say, "There's nothing that can be done." "We'll make you comfortable towards the end" "I'll schedule a lung biopsy to see how far advanced is your disease" "Have a safe drive home"

I went to the parking garage ALONE. Sat in my car ALONE and cried ALONE. How was I going to tell my family? Why would the Lord do this? What was going on?

That was Wednesday...and then came Sunday...and I went for prayer...

**taps on your shoulder** then what?

...thanks, bye.

It was a bright and sunny day in Oakland. I decided to go outside the apartment and walk around. I was seven years old. In our complex was a tiny playground for the children, and a small bench located not far from our place. (My father and I) Seated on this bench was a man. He had a look of torment on his face. He was soaking wet. People were coming to and from their apartments with glasses of water, buckets, whatever they could find that held water. They would then walk up to the man and throw the water on him, drenching him even more. The man just sat there, talking to himself. They would then go back into their places, get more water, then go back outside to soak the man again. I had never seen anything like that before or since. And to this day, I still never found out why they were doing this.

Is it possible he was suffering heatstroke and they were trying to cool him down...?

I guess you don't know now if you didn't know then, huh.

Once again I was taking a nap after settling the baby to sleep. It was 3pm and I was sleeping off yet another night of drinking. I rolled over tenderly thanks to my stiff neck. I must have lifted the wrong way at work. When I woke up my neck was loosed! Little did I know what pain was to come. Little did I know this was God's supernatural game of Chess and he had me in 'check'...:help:

Don't know. It's a possibility. But unlikely. People were not very 'corteous' in that neighborhood.

I was shook awake at 4 in the morning on a Saturday. The phone was ringing and I jumped up quickly to grab the phone. I worried in my mind what it might be, who calls at this hour? "Hello is this the Adam's county jail?". . . I stood there dumbfounded. Finally I said "Ma'am this is a dorm room at Valparaiso Univeristy. She replied "Oh well, do you happen to know the number of the Adam's county jail. (You would think its a prank but she's serious). So I get out my phone book and start flipping through it. After about 3 minutes of looking in my exhausted state I realized. . . "I've never even heard of Adams county"

Or how about. . .

It was afternoon on Sunday, I had just finished my homework and was looking forward to relaxing the rest of the day til I went to bed. While loading up my video games I get a call from Staff Sergent Sanders from my roommate's USMC reserve unit. "Is Matt there?" he asks to which I reply "Shouldn't he be at drill with you?"

"No" he says, "we finished up and I know he was kind of tired and I was just checking to make sure he made it back ok"

"Well he's not here yet." I replied nervously

"Well I'm sure he'll be ok, I called kind of early. Thanks for your help though."

I tried to call Matt's cell phone to see how he was. Of course his cell is off. I spend the rest of the night worried, asking people if they have seen him. Eventually I just resign myself to bed and fell asleep.

At roughly 1 AM I awake to the door opening, its Matt entering the room. I sit up and say "Good, you're not dead" and go back to sleep.

I was enjoying the day, playing with my little stuffed animal. It was my most prized possession. Suddenly out of nowhere, an older kid ran up and snatched the animal from my hands. As I cried for him to give it back he told me, "The only way you're getting this back is if you beat up that kid over there." I looked to where he was pointing and saw a kid about my size. The kid looked confused, but prepared for whatever. I didn't want to fight the kid, but I loved that stuffed animal. Then I did what I felt I needed to do. I ran over to the kid and beat him down. I hated every minute of it. The older kid, laughing, gave me my stuffed animal back.

(I was eight. Don't judge me too harshly.)

I awoke to a loosed neck! But man did I have a headache! I never had a migraine, but I did what I imagined those who get them do. I threw up, again and again. But what is wrong with my legs? I wasn't drunk when I went to bed, but why can't I walk straight!? My head, oh it hurts. I need help! I was very consciouse of the fact that the only people around were me and the baby. He was sleeping soundly in the bedroom, not knowing of his mothers fear. What if I die, how long til someone comes looking for me? What about my baby!?

Not likely. I haven't seen the man in almost 20 years. And I don't associate with anyone from 'that' side of the family.

It's a long story. And it would span more than one paragraph.
