• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It seems like most of the folks who post here are for the most part contented with their lives as singles. But I think also that most of us also struggle periodically with loneliness, biological clocks, dying dreams, etc.

I'm kind of in the middle of one of those episodes myself, and it got me thinking ...... maybe we should have some sort of stickied "pity party" thread where people could post when they've attended one too many baby showers, been asked by one too many relatives why such a great guy/girl isn't married, had to cope with a home or car maintenance emergency on our own ... anything that causes those discontented feelings to rear their ugly little heads. Something similar to the "Letting Go Barrel" where all of our angst could be contained in one place?

I think for me, calling it something kind of light-hearted like "Singles Pity Party Thread" would be a reminder to myself when I posted in it that most of the time I really am quite contented with my life, and that my unhappy feelings will pass in time. But maybe it would be hurtful to others to call it something like that, or maybe to even have such a thread in the first place? Maybe it would be too negative?

Not even sure how serious I am about this idea - just thinking out loud ...

Yeah, i agree with the idea. I'm sick of people that know who i like saying that we would make a good couple when she doesn't like me. It hurts every time it happens. They say, yeah, i can see you 2 together, and to tell you the truth, so could i, but she can't and that hurts so much. I don't know, i just can't stop thinking of her and it gets quite depressing at times. Well, that's me and my story, what are your guys/girls?

I think that sort of thread would be counterproductive - we should be avoiding self-pity and bitterness not encouraging it. If someone needs to get something off their chest occasionally and post their own thread to do so that's fine, but I don't think we need a stickied thread devoted to "poor me" posts.

[rant]On another note, in my opinion there are way too many sticky threads here already. My view on sticky threads is that they should be reserved for rules/regulations that aren't meant to be replied to or for frequently asked questions that don't quite recieve posts often enough to stay on the front page on their own. Or temporarily for announcements that everyone needs to see. Anything else that is worth keeping on the first page will be kept there naturally by people posting to the thread. And if it drops off the first page then that probably indicates that the topic has been discussed as fully as people wish to discuss it. And as far as new people coming in - it is usually better to start fresh with a new thread than for them to have to read through 10 pages of old posts in a sticky thread in order to sort out what the thread is about.[/rant]

I ask in your name for your peace and love to fall on all of us here. I break the spirits of depression, condemnation and selfdoubt and wash the blood of jesus on all of my brothers and sisters who feel alone in this earthly world at times. I ask you with all my heart to bring your sweet presence and love into the foreground of our lives, to let us forget the tricks of the enemy, particularly those little nagging voices that tell us you have noone else in mind for us, nor plans to make us fruitful in spirit and in mother/fatherhood. I love my brothers and sisters, and know you do too. In Jesus' name, I ask these things....

May peace and love fill your heart to overflowing,
Sarah :groupray:

Oooh - yeah - I hadn't thought of it from that angle. It was more an idea that if all the angst that I think even the most contented singles feel from time to time were contained in one thread, the rest of the forum might stay more positively focused. However, I can see where that could backfire. I retract the idea. :)

And thanks for the prayer, Sarah! Beautiful!

Since I am the mod that has stickied the threads in this forum, I can answer to some of the reason why they are stickied. Mostly, the majority of them, a member has asked to sticky the thread. I don't have a problem with it. For the most part they are popular threads, and they are easier to find with them at the top of the forum. For this particular forum, there are not forum specific rules. There are very few announcements made, if any. However, I do concede that a couple of them can probably be unstickied because they do not have a lot of traffic in them. As a compromise, I will unsticky the less visited ones.
