  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Join the centrists, my friend. No one will confiscate your centrist card. :)

Though, the far-left and the far-right might not like what centrists have to say.

It should be pointed out, there's two different ways to be considered a "centrist" within the construct of a two party system where both parties have been partially captured by their more "zealous" ideological wings.

One can either be a centrist in the sense that they're moderate and nuanced on most issues

Or they can be a "net-centrist" by way of being pretty far left on some issues, and pretty far right on the others which averages out to a "moderate" score on the ideology score card.

For instance, someone like a Larry Hogan or Charlie Baker is very different than an RFK Jr. (despite all of them probably averaging out to a roughly similar "net ideology score" in terms of left/right issues)

Yeah. I see your point that there are different flavors of centrists.

The average of -0.3 and +0.3 is 0 (nuanced), just as the average of -100 and +100 is 0 (net-centrist). For myself, I might be more nuanced on most things.
