Numbers 21:

8 And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”
John 3:

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
Matthew 10:

16 Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

In reference to Num 21, some ended up worshipping it. So it was destroyed & it was right for him to do so in the sight of the Lord (II Kings 18:5, 3).
Not to get off subject, but yes, and there is a really important lesson to be learned there. It's not just that one incident of something good, turned into idolatry, that has happened, throughout history. Lot of sermons can be preached here.
