  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

On a side note, I never really understood, until today, how temptations are being thrown into men's faces on a regular basis about this kinda stuff.
I was reading the news paper today at work, and I flipped to the car section (I am starting to look at buying a car) ANYWAYS, I fliped to the section of the paper, that advertises used cars and car dealerships and whatnot, and I am not joking, after every second advertisemnt for a car, was another advertisement for sex. Either for strip clubs, 1-900 numbers, massage clubs, online sites.... you name it. I literally fell ILL after reading through the first column of cars. I had to put the paper down.

The thing that gets me, is they put this stuff, in a section that (generally anyways) would be a section that men would be interrested in. It was just plain gross, not to mention the pictures of half nude women on their advertisements. I closed the paper shut so fast. It was been on my mind all day. What a struggle it must be for men. That we are comming to an age where they cant even look in the used automotive section of a small town's newspaper without having sex thrown into their faces.

Even funnier? The city I live in, is called the "Bible Belt" of Canada. There are more churches and "Christians" where I live per capita, then anywheres else in Canada. Now THAT'S Sad!!

So it got me thinking, how many marriages does this ruin? How many young boys, who have an interest in cars, pick up the newspaper, innocently, and have access to all the naughty stuff he could immagine.
I read somewheres the otehr day, that the average boy is exposed to some sort of pornography as early as age 9. NINE YEARS OLD!!

My God what can we do to stop this :prayer:

My heart breaks so badly for all the men (and women) out there who struggle with this sort of thing. I wish I could just hug you all :hug:

Men, I pray that if you ever have a son (or women, with yoru daughters) sit them down and talk to them about this kind of things. (Or if you already have kids, and they are entering an age where it seems appropriate) PLEASE educate your kids about the damaging affects of Porn on one's life.

Arg... I need to go pray :cry:

I share in your shock and disbelief, Candice...the local newspaper where I live is pretty much the same...you'll have used car ads, job advertisements, then literally several columns full of "personal" ads with people advertising "services" and other truly disgraceful things related to sex. It is never quite as blaze and as prominent as I'm guessing it was in the paper that you read, but it's clear that society is becoming worryingly tolerant of this sort of selling. the first solution that I thought of is write a letter to the paper expressing your disgust and dismay at the prominence of these advertisements. Of course it's unlikely that they'd be completely removed, since newspapers are keen to make money through selling advertising space, but to voice your disapproval and possibly invite people at CBC that you know to do the same would be a strong showing of your convictions. It's awful...truly awful...:sigh:

Well thank for noticing, your observations are correct. Sex sells and thats what these marketers go after these days. It does not matter what these companies are selling that have to incorporate sex into there commercials and ads. Not only are they making these woman wear practically nothing, they are now doing it to the men. At the mall I saw a male model wearing hip hugging jeans. So before too much longer it will be as bad with the woman as bad as it's with the men.

It's like these companies want us to have low-self esteem so we will be vulnerable to buy their products. My heart goes out to these women that have been hurt by these ads, because they feel they do not measure up to how these as portray women. I am actually puzzled why women wear these clothes also. I mean they say they want a good guy that repescts them and doesn't think about sex all the time, but they dress like they want to show off their body.

Also you have the breast enhancement and male enhancement ads that you see. They are putting thought into people's minds to make them feel inferior, just to gain a profit. Marketers are getting into the pyschology of people and making pretty good money doing. Your question is when will it stop. th eanswer is when this planet turns it's eyes towards God. The sad reality is, it probably when never stop until the return of Christ.

The thought of that almost makes me sick. I never really thought about that. About the people who are getting rich off of mine (and many other women) self esteem problems :mad:

Thats a really good idea Kristian. I didnt look at the news paper long enough to really see what else was in there. I was so sick after the first column that I didnt want to go on. Im tempted to go to the store todeay and pick up another news paper and see what they have in that one.
Unfortunatly you are right. A smiple letter from me isnt going to do a whole lot of good. Even the letters of an entire student body wont do much good. They are making waaaaaaaaaay too much money off of these ad's to stop. But Im certianly going to be looking into this a little more. Thanks for the suggestion :thumbsup:

I am sorry to hear that you have a low-self esteem. It is too common in todays society. It just goes to show you that Satan is attacking in these days any way he can. If one does not feel like they are worthy of something, whether it be love, salvation, etc, then Satan knows he can get people to lose fellowship with the Lord. Have you prayed to the Lod for a good self-esteem? Since He loves you, He will make you feel like you are really someone. Ask God to guard your mind, because Satan does such a good job to make people think these ways.

Those ads have nothing to do with love, respect or God. People's minds these days are filled with lust and people forget what it is like to love one another. I hope women do not think that they have to look like this to recieve love from a guy, because that is so far from the truth. Love has nothing to do with looks.

1 Corinthians 13

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Guys, what things can I say or do to help him, without making him feel angry?

Are you serious about this man? Are you thinking of spending a life with him?

If the answer is yes, then I have another question: what's wrong with making him feel angry?

The truth is, when you point out another person's wrongdoing, he very often will become angry and defensive. If you're considering him as a possible husband, maybe this is a good opportunity to see how he handles anger and conflict. Conflict is part of every marriage, but the difference between happiness and misery in marriage often boils down to how you handle these situations. Sometimes, the "handling" can be more destructive than the situation itself. So although I'd never recommend that you get your boyfriend riled up on purpose just to see what he does, I would recommend that you treat this as an opportunity to learn how he reacts to conflict. So I think you should feel perfectly free to bring up his porn problem and tell him how much it bothers you. If he gets hostile and defensive, or (just as bad) tries to avoid the issue altogether, that tells you just as much about the kind of husband he's likely to be as the porn itself does.
