I don't drink and never plan to: my family has a history of addiction problems and I would rather not risk it. Even if I wanted to, my ADHD medication becomes deadly when combined with alcohol and many other chemicals. However, I see no reason why I can't enjoy some bacon once a month or so, and not still be healthy. It's a matter of moderation. Additionally, certain foods associated with bad health can actually be fine with the right amount of exercise. There is even a body builder that eats fast food every day, just to prove that it won't ruin your body so long as you have a lifestyle that accommodates it. Fast foods, most people do not realize, are full of vitamins and nutrients. It is mostly the fat content that makes them bad for you, and those calories can be worked off.
Consider also the role of genetics in health: I am high risk for aggressive breast cancer. Both sides of the family have it, and they had it young (below 50). If my mother ends up getting it, I am pretty much doomed to eventual breast cancer, since both my dad's parents died before the age of 60 from aggressive cancers. Nothing about my eating habits is likely to prevent that from happening with such a strong genetic predisposition to cancer, so I am better of screening for it and catching it early when it happens than trying to avoid it entirely.
