  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Got my first poppy todat at a Tim Hortons! :) I've tried, for the last few Remembrance Days to make sure I say thanks to the veteran who is selling them. Hopefully I'll get to do that a few times at the mall or wherever before Remembrance Day!

I haven't bought one yet.... The problem with these poppy pins is that they don't stay put on the clothing, whether it be a coat, blazer, sweather or blouse. I always lose them. And I'm not the only one who loses them, either. It's frustrating...

The poppy pin should be changed. There should be a type of pin on it which can be closed or attached.

I'll try to wear one, at least, on Nov. 11. Hopefully I don't lose it this time. :sigh:

here's what you do with the end of the pin kids :

once inside your jacket, sweater etc.... bend the pin so it is folded up towards you, that way it doesn't slide out.

OR

grab a piece of eraser and poke the pin through there, much like the back of an earring.

And I have seen the Tim Hortons quarter - that's pretty neat , but resist the urge to scratch of the middle to see if the poppy ink comes off - because it DOES!!

My hubby came home with some poppy quarters. I put my finger on it and he flipped out! Oh, the poppy comes off, eh? Ok. So I gently gave it back to him so the poppy could stay on, lol. I have a poppy stuck inside a pillar candle right here by the computer. I totally agree with the pin thing, though I haven't tried that eraser method.

they are everywhere in our town and I am so pleased. Thank you for this post I was wondering if everyone forgot about Remembrance.
Our service was beautiful. There is something heart wrenching about seeing all of those old broken and grey faces kneeling down to place wreaths at the cross, while over 1000 people recite the Lord's Prayer together in the pouring rain. Everyday should be Remembrance Day.

This year I saw a lot more youth wearing their poppies - and with respect too, not just pinned on their pants but over their hearts and that was great to see. I used to be afraid that with more and more veterans passing with each year that the meaning of this day would be lost, I don't believe that now.
Here in BC Remembrance Day is a holiday, and I think it should be, however with that I think the stores should be closed so that there is reason for this holiday. It doesn't seem right when everyone heads to the mall. It used to be enforced that if people had to work, that a minute of silence was held at exactly 11, everyone had to stop what they were doing and be silent. Not so much anymore.
